Is the Stag Mag a good pickup?

I ask because no one ever talks about it on here, and I've never seen one "in the wild", but it seems like it would be a really useful pickup in a Strat.

Does anyone have any experience with it?

Well, yes, it's a GOOD pickup, but the real question is, "for what application"? As a bridge bucker, I don't like it - too bright, though it splits well and will allow you to keep a good strat sound in positions that use the bridge pup.

As a neck bucker, I love it. That brightness allows it to stay clear even with the warmth of the neck position; it's not the "normal" bucker sound, but I actually prefer it. Plus, did I mention it splits well? I have this in my main guitar.

I thought it lacked some serious personality!!

BTW, do a more thorough search - we have discussed it here before...

I searched for "stag mag" and found a few vague references to it being used as a neck humbucker, but that's about it. I would be using it as a bridge humbucker in a Strat, so most of what I found was useless to me.

I had a pair of Stag Mags in a guitar for awhile. I had toggle switches so that I could split each one individually. I agree with jester that its a killer neck pup . . . not so much for the bridge. It wasn't a "bad" bridge, but just seemed to lack character. But it was a great "clean" neck pup.

btw - in either position, they sounded great when split. But then again, thats what it was designed to do.
