I love those Tele Deluxes, you can get an MIM one though. No idea how you'd go about ordering from Fender Japan though.

2 ways if you just have to have "the real thing" (which is kind of an oxymoron when talking about a Jap Fender, but that´s another thread...).

1. Contact a dealer that is known for violations of trade regulations and dealer agreements but can´t really be litigated against or sanctioned because he´s in a different country and therefore will ship it to you anyway. Ishibashi is one of them.

2. Buy it used.

Both are common routes to take, but if you do the former you kind of relinquish your right to ever complain about unemployment, the crappy economy, or similar issues that your actions directly funded.

I´d personally build a Warmoth before even considering Option 1, but unfortunately for us all thousands of other guitarists don´t seem to care about or be wary of the repercussions of their actions. What you do is your choice of course, but you need to know what collateral damage you may be helping to cause ;)

Yeah, I agree with Zerb. I'd rather do Warmoth. I don't think I'm buying any more imported guitars.

Fender Japans are still great. My 52 Tele is awesome, I bought it at Ishibashi in Nagoya when I was on a business trip...

Hey, at least you guys in the states can get reasonably priced home made guitars over there.

here in the UK you buy imports or shell out big bucks for custom mades.

Excuse me while I return my guitars because they weren't made in Portugal... oh, that's right, Portugal only builds classicals (which I own).

Then again I really don't mind repercussions to the US so... Luckilly I bought MIM's and Asians so they got no money from me either.

If Fender is so upset by the loss of sales here is a thought: Offer them to the US buyers as well.

I think I'd buy only fender japan guitars if that was available.

Ya think people in japan lust after models or options we only have?

I don't think he was speaking of buying only US made, but instead of purchasing a used instrument, since that's usually a private sale and really has nil effect on the economy, etc.

Being based in the UK, I presume you know about Gordon Smith guitars. (http://www.gordonsmithguitars.com/) They may not be as cheap as they were a few years ago, but you can still get a basic 1-pickup model for under £450 and a 'deluxe' LP-type for under £800.

I haven't always heard good things about their quality control, but the ones I have played have always impressed me.

There is also Rees Electric Guitars (www.rees-electric-guitars.com), who make guitars that compare quite favourably in price with US Fenders (especially given the current state of the pound,) though they are not made completely in the UK - I believe they use Warmoth necks.

I haven't had the chance to play one as they have no dealers and only sell direct, but seem worth a look.

Quoted for truth.

If anyone's going to have models not available to the US market - such as the JacksonStars NASL - then no one can complain if my dollars go to a Japanese dealer if that's the only reasonable way to get a model I want.

Note that $3500+ for a Custom Shop is not "reasonable" when they already have a production model available.

I know, but you prefer American guitars, right? I mean, I know they're imported if you buy them in Europe, but that's not what I meant by "imported" guitars.

I know what he was saying, I was just goofing around (and with) the fact that companies never seem to offer the cool models in a US line.

He knows what I meant (I think) since I pretty much reply the same thing when he posts something similar.

Personally, I don't care, whatever I do I'm always going to buy foreign until someone builds an electric guitar in Portugal.
