Is there any way to retrofit a tube rectifier in an SS Rectifier amp?

just curious. I just realized that my bandmaster has the same circuit as the 63 vibroverb combo-aa763, minus reverb and tube recto.

on an older amp it should be doable. on a new pc board amp its probably a nightmare

Yeah it could be done. What were you trying to achieve with the change?

it could be done if you have taps on the transformer for a tube recitifier, and if your transformer can handle the current draw from one more tube

ah, sounds good. As my sig states its a bandmaster '63, 40 watt power tranny. I'm pretty much trying to vibroverb-ize my bandmaster to get more of a singing tone.

Michael Soldano once said that there aren't any real good tube rectifiers in production anymore, and even if there were, you don't get much benefit from them. I believe his words were that the technology is out of date, their horribly inefficient and you can get the same tones with a SS rectifier. I'm pretty sure you can change them out, though, but there are probably some procedures to be done.

would the old SS recto in a 63 bandmaster be horribly inefficient?

What's good advice to really smooth out the tone on my bandmaster besides getting G12h30 celestions for its cab?

What are you wanting to do with your tone? I know you said you wanted it to "sing" more, but can you elaborate a bit? What's it doing now?
