Than having a screwdriver fall on the top of your brand new guitar?

I was just changing the bridge humbucker and screwing in the pickup ring when the screwdriver slipped and fell just a couple of centimeters. Left a scratch. Could have been much worse, I suppose. Maybe if I'd sticked with seymours this wouldn't have happened - must be a punishment for straying from the path!

That sucks man. The first scratch on a guitar is always the worst one. After that, it's character. Which guitar is it?

Oh yes, a friend of mine stuck the headstock of my brand new guitar into a moving ceiling fan the first time he played it, when he took it off.

Now THAT'S irritating.

yeah there's worse...picking up a case you think is locked and the guitar falls out and one of the latches takes a chunk of wood out of the body...:1:

I once had a jackson kelly (crappier version) in a gig bag that I thought I had zipped up, took a few steps out of the room and it fell hard face down on a school marble-ish floor. Lucily NOTHING happened, not even a scratch. So the moral of the story is, rather than throwing a screwdriver at your guitar throw it on the floor.

Oh yea, I can think of worse..... Have your prized top of the line Ovation fall OFF the stage and hit the pavement, then because of the "hurricane" force winds that pushed it off in the first place, it gets scooted over said pavement for about 10 feet. That'll put a crimp in your day....

Actually Seymours are quite susceptible to this due to the fact that they include the typical slotted screws instead of philips which make MUCH more sense.

I can't remember how many times I had the screwdriver slip from the screw's sides...
No accident YET but...

With all due respect I'd rather strip a .10$ screw than mar/chip my guitar.
Not to mention, the chances of actually tightening PICKUP HEIGHT screws to the point that the screw gets stripped are rather small...

plus one on that. I always ALWAYS wanted to actually write a thread on why on earth does SD use a silly flat head srew for their pickups, which make it almost impossible to use since they usually need so many turns before getting it in the ballpark??

Slotted screws are vintage correct, and since there's no "modern correct" form and they don't want to charge you with two sets of screws they opt for the slotted screws.


They are definitely a pain, though.

LOL! sorry...

That happened to me when I was putting strap locks on my V. Took a nice piece of the lacquer off. I filled it in and buffed it out, but it is a lighter color. Oh well...crap happens.

Well thanks for all the stories... I'm sure they were meant to make me feel better but I'm not so sure of that! Maybe I'm just lucky that nothing worse happened.

Some bad things have happened to my earlier guitars as well but it's all the more irritating when you haven't had the new guitar for that many days.

Jackson RWR. The best looking guitar on the planet. I've always wanted one from ever first seeing it. Now that I have I don't really know why I waited for so long. Because of the price, probably.

That sure sucks..whenever I get the soldring Iron outor the screwdrivers I put cloth round the guitar body just to make sure no solder spits on it or the screwdriver does not slip. Paint had chipped to the wood on my V when I was fixing a new bridge. It hurt man and it looks shabby. It looks frankenstien some People like those dings I dont. I need to refinsinh that guitar it got dings and chipped finsihes at the wings.
Dont worry cheer up. The first time I seen pick scrathces on my new guitar I was like how did they get there I dont evenn play agressive, and make sure I take care after everyuse Something I learnt from My grand dad He was so particular about wiping his Violin clean after every use.

And for this reason I have learned to keep one latch closed AT ALL TIMES, even when there's no guitar in the case. Unless the case is blatantly open in which case it's kinda hard to just pick it up and not notice that it's open.
