Is there much difference in the pearly gates neck and bridge?

Well I got a pearly gates after about an hour of sitting in the store mulling around.

It seemed to be my best bet.

I got it home and decided to install it myself, 1st pickup install ever and it went fine, took less than 5 minutes. Then as I was looking at the guitar... I noticed it was a ****ing neck pickup! So I cussed for a good 10 minutes then decided to try it.

It sounds a hell of alot better than that JB did and it just sounds kick ass in general, but I want to know if the bridge model would sound better or not? Since I could easily return it, and swaping pickups with a non-recessed floyd is stupidly easy.

Please let me know fairly soon because if I'm going to be trading it I'll yank it out before I go to bed and run it over tomorrow morning.

Actually I think I love every element of this pickup the way it is. Unless you know for a fact the bridge model would be better I'm keeping it. Ballsy, thick, beefy, extremely vocal mids, and smooth.

If you like it, keep it.
The Bridge should be a bit hotter than the eck model, maybe with a tad more mids.

The extra mids would be nice... Do most shops that carry duncans honor the 30 day trade in thing? I assume that's how it would work.

Never tried a neck pearly in the bridge but had some neck pup in the bridge slot. They always sounded too thin and trebly for me, but i like phat - until the point of loosing definition - PAF (9 to 9.5k) in the bridge.

It's certantly not thin lol... But it does lack some mids. I've got my mids to 10 on my amp and that's where it sounds balanced.

I'll call guitarworks this evening and see if they have one to even exchange me with. I'm still shocked that a pickup with 7.3k output can kick this much ass for metal.

And btw before I think about returning it, should I flip it over with the screw coil towards the bridge?

Right now I have it with the slug coil towards the bridge which sounds great except for the high e string is a bit loud being that it's a slant bucker route.

Re: Is there much difference in the pearly gates neck and bridge?

I've read other posts here where guys have put a pg neck in the bridge position and loved it. If it sounds good to you, then that's all that matters!

Re: Is there much difference in the pearly gates neck and bridge?

I did the same thing with some A2Ps when the supplier sent me two neck pickups ... cussed about the same amount of time. Tried them ... liked them ... but after about a week I began to find the neck in the bridge felt a little weak. So you may feel the same way after about a week ... still within the 30 days though.

Yea I called em and they said they'd even trade happily.

So I'll get a PG bridge.

Btw this kramer is the easiest guitar to change pickups on ever. I just did it in under 3 mintes lol. Stupid long screws slowed me down.

Yeah.. thats right.. Mr.. "Ive never tried a Duncan that I've liked"

..I think at least. Some topic a while ago on "have you ever been disappointed?"

Well - Tell us how it goes, I'm getting more and more interested in the PG..

Re: Is there much difference in the pearly gates neck and bridge?

The bridge PG is significantly hotter, 8.4k vs. 7.3k. Will have more midrange.
