Is this a good pickup set?

Duncan Distortion in Bridge and a PRS Dragon Bass in the Neck. These pickups will go in a solid, 10 lb mahogany single cut guitar with an ebony fretboard.

Style: I mainly play punk rock (Blink-182, Thrice, etc), Progressive Rock (Coheed & Cambria) and some metal (Avenged Sevenfold). I've been playing a lot of Blues-like guitar solos because a lot of the Coheed solos.

Edit: I also need pinch harmonics, so I naturally assumed that a Duncan Distortion would get me there. If I'm correct, the Duncan Dist in a solid mahogany guitar sounds similiar (thickness-wise) to a strat with an Invader. Is this correct?

I don't care for PRS' pickups. I would keep the DD, but I'd pair it with a Jazz or Pearly Gates.

You may also want to consider the JB. It's similar in it's characteristics, but it has better cleans (if that is important). Both sound great in a dark slab of mahogany.

The cleans should be covered by the neck pickup, so the bridge pickup doesn't necessarily have to be squeaky clean. (I've tried out the JB, and it was a bit on the thin side, in my opinion)

What are your thoughts on the Dirty Fingers in comparison to the Distortion/Custom?

I don't care for PRS' pickups. I would keep the DD, but I'd pair it with a Jazz or Pearly Gates.

The DD/PGn combo has its uses (specific for me), but it's not for everyone!

I liked it in my Hamer for aggressive modern rock.

If you play distorted most of the time, but still want rich, thick cleans from the neck, I think its a good set to have.

I have since replaced that set with an APH/Demon for a slightly more vintage character.

I don't care to mix the Dragon with a Duncan UNLESS you want to feel like you are playing 2 different guitars. I used to do that.

I do think the Dragon is an amazing pup.

The Distortion set is pretty badass. The neck will get good cleans, and sounds great for lead & rhythm.

Custom would work better for what you want than a DD IMO! The Custom is a bit warmer than the DD, sounds like a souped up PAF so, it will cover some blues, rock, metal, etc very well!

DD set is sweet, i have it in my Schecter. The DD neck pup sounds like a non-sissy jazz. I really wanna try the dd/pgn combo and the dd/Custom combo. I like the DDn a lot, but It's not 100% for me. Sounds sweet shredding on the neck, but chords get overpowered by bass. The clean is awesome tho, very rich and full. Not overly sharp at all. DD bridge is awesome and heavy as hell, word up. I'd say punk would sound a lil heavier with the DD, and its hotness sounds sweet when soloing. Check out the Custom neck.

I have the Custom in mind too, I'm just not sure which one would sound thicker/better with Pinch harmonics. My current humbucker (in my singlecut) gets muffled sometimes after I sweep then do a pinch. On the contrast, my strat with an invader gets some wicked pinch harmonics.

Well Jonesys nowhere to be seen, Sids dead with a needle in his arm, and Rotten's more into animal documentries these days.

I think there's alot to be said about the CC/PGn combination, haven't tried it in mahogany, but i do think it can cover all the styles you mentioned.
