Is this a sin?

I have an early 90's CIJ Jazzmaster with stock PUs that I am considering replacing with HBs. The PUs are USA DeArmond GoldTones that look like they would fit pretty well. The stock PUs are not that bad, but I was just considering doing something different. My questions is; how seriously would this alter my sound? Will I completely loose that Jazzmaster magic?
