a while ago i picked up a very beat up tweed fender "blues deluxe" (sort of a pre-courser to HRD series) the indicater light diddnt come and the tweed was nasty but it sounded damn good.... LATLEY IT HAS BEEN MISBEHAVING for example it makes a crackley static sound when playing low pitched notes on E and A, also the volume cuts out now and then when playing hard somtimes it gets quiet and makes a "wistle" noise ....until i kick it  then it stops and volume returns to normal. any chance this is a pre-amp tube problem? cause that would be nice and easy to fix.... i just replaced the power tubes with no positive impact

WHATS THE MATTER WITH MY AMP, thx

It sounds like you have a few bad connections in the amp somewhere. The only way to find out is to take the chassis out and look things over. Look for any discoloration in capacitors, resistors, etc. Anything burnt looking is a sign of a possible problem. I think you'll need to disconnect the control board, with all the volume and tone pots, from the chassis to see what the components look like.
You said also that there's a "static" sound at certain notes; which would say to me that vibration is causing the noise from something loose.
If you're not sure how to go about getting the amp out for inspection, it's not a hard thing to do. It's possible you may be able to get the amp back into shape with a little assistance from some people here at the forum or from other resources online.
Or, you can take it to an amp-tech. It pretty much depends on how handy you are with a soldering iron.

Re: is this a tube problem?

thx il have a look, seems like the chassis is mounted vertically so all i have to do is take off the cover at thre back of the amp

Re: is this a tube problem?

Definitely try replacing the preamp tubes and/or taking them out and putting them back in. I had a similar issue with my amp, and it was a loose preamp tube or something like that.

Re: is this a tube problem?

one of my preamp tubes makes a huge "clang" noise when i tapit with a pen,... Hopefully i found the problem!

Re: is this a tube problem?

How's you input jack ? A lot of Fender PCB amps made in the last 15
years have badly designed input jacks.
