That iPhone stuff, while being cool, i dont like. I dont like playing into headphones at all.
The Kemper thing BLEW ME AWAY! That's awesome ! I guess you would have to get ahold of a few amps to play them and profile them into the Kemper. But i seriously like it.

I can't stand playing through headphones either. The kemper is probably the best advancement- and there are bulletin boards for Kemper users that have already profiled their amps and uploaded the files, so you really have an infinate supply of amps

i have a really nice pair of studio Sennheiser's for when I get the urge to play around midnight and i don't even like using them.
That's actually crazy !! How many amps can you store on the Kemper ??

I like tubes. I like tree wood. I like transistorized overdrive devices in seasick-green boxes. I like jeans, T-shirts, domestic beer and the talented guy playing a battered Strat into a Super Reverb in the corner bar down the street on a Friday night to a crowd of college kids dancing and trying to get laid.
Maybe if I shake off some cobwebs and get an iPhone, that'll turn my head around. Maybe not.

Or is the ability to actually record amps yourself that makes the difference?
Cause I seriously doubt I could ever get my hands on say the Triple Rect. to model it or even a JCM 800 for that matter.
Unless the modeling is THAT much better than the already available solutions...

Telecommunications formats come and go as quickly or quicker than recorded music formats. Who has the same phone they had 5 years ago? 2 years ago? This is like making a guitar with a hard drive, or a DVD drive, or a zip drive, jazz drive, or a (insert random data storage and/or processing device) In a short time, it's operating on obsoleted hardware, software, or both. The only fun thing about it, is that instead of old technology going in the trash, the hardware might be repurposable for this sort of thing, but even then as they malfunction and batteries age, the supply dries up.
Short answer: no, but it's fun for awhile.

Bring on the technology. Having limited space at home to practice on and not really able to use my amp at the house much these days, AmpliTube has been great for me. I use it on my iPhone and run it through a mixer where I can then mix in my laptop and play along with songs or just jam with headphones on.
My "office" is now in a corner of the front room of the house, not a separate room. That was sacrificed to make room for our second child. It was either adapt and practice in the AC of the house or suffer playing through the amp in the hot garage, or not at all.
I know technology advances like this aren't for everybody, and that's fine, but there are situations where it's the perfect solution.

i think the iPhone's a very good idea for someone that travels and likes to have their guitar with them. I miss my electric when i go to Europe, but i have my acoustic with me. Also the session musician thing is cool.
Can the iPhone work as a head with a cab ?

Not without running it through a power amp. In theory, yes. Hmmm. I need to run mine through the power amp of my Marshall (effects return) and see what that sounds like.
