I bought this pedal last week and got it today. When I opened the box I immediately noticed an overbearing chemical smell. Im not talking just a little bit Im talking full on give you a headache nasty. Ive never experienced this before. What is it? Ive let the pedal sit out for a few hours now and the smell is just as strong as before.

That's just that good old fashioned Made In America smell. You pay extra for that.

But seriously, that sounds abnormal. Did you try contacting the manufacturer?

Yah not quite made in America....try Korea. I contacted ISP and havent heard back but that was earlier today. I also contacted Musicians Friend and they said is was probably just the glue used or something and that it needed to air out. I guess Ill wait a day and see but I really dont think this smell is gonna go away.

Velcro it to the roof of your car for a week?

I bought one 2 months ago and noticed the same thing, a strong unpleasant odor. I thought maybe GC had repackaged a returned item by some stinky dude, but I'm pretty it was new and never opened/used.

Re: ISP Decimator SMELL?

Was it Decimator or G String? First of second generation? Have you used it? worked fine? I ask this because I am seriously thinking on ordering one G String Decimator II some time soon and I don't wanna have a surprise since a friend in USA would pick it and bring it to me in Mexico so no chance to test it for him, and a chemical smell may be a problem for security checks in airports.

Re: ISP Decimator SMELL?

Latest Decimator version for me (not the g string). I'm guessing it's the same smell he had. Sure it smelled like BO, but it also had a chemical thing about it. I doubt a person would smell it without opening the box, because I didn't, but I'm sure a dog would smell it. But it's possible airport dogs are trained to go after specific smells and may ignore it. I'm sure there's a lto of other foul smells that make it through airports without issues.

Re: ISP Decimator SMELL?

Two notes - that's the smell I got when I plugged in an 18v adapter to a 9v wah and torched the internals, but I also got a similar smell (with smoke) when I used spray-on adhesive for a header wrap over an automotive exhaust piece. Could be glue burning off. If the pedal still works I wouldn't worry about it.
