G string is better then the cheaper decimator that doesn't have the loop but it is around $100 more. If you don't plug anything into the loop it has no effect on the pedal, you can not use it if you don't need to.

Re: ISP Noise Decimator G-String

How well the ND pedal works with your amplifier depends on how you set the input Gain control.

If you run your amp clean and add overdrive and/or distortion via effect pedals, noise will be controlled.

If, like me, you run your amp overdriven, turning down the guitar volume pot(s) to get a cleaner sound, the ND pedal is going to be of less help. Much of the noise that you sought to eliminate would be generated later in the signal path than the noise reduction device.

No, you don't need an effects loop in your amp in order to appreciate the advantages of the Decimator G String over the standard Decimator. IMO, the G String model is easily worth the extra money, as it is so much more transparent, and so much more flexible/versatile. You can run it without anything in its loop. You can run it with all your effects in the loop, or with just some of them in the loop. You can do both of those things, but in the effects loop of an amp. You can also put the preamp of your amplifier in the pedal's effects loop. There are many, many ways to hook the thing up for what you determine to be its best use.

However, if you will not be running anything in the loop, you must use a patch cable to complete the loop anyhow. If you don't, the pedal does absolutely nothing.

I usually run my guitar or bass straight through it, just like a normal Decimator, using a short patch cable in the loop, because it's simple, quick, and effective. However, I have also tried all the other ways of hooking it up, and they all work great.

I was completely anti-noise-gate until I tried this pedal. The performance spoke for itself, and changed my mind. Although it was expensive, I felt that it was definitely worth it after playing my first gig with it.

hi guys,
thanks for input above, i take note what you guys say, please may i ask just one more question, where in the chain do you guys place the g string for best results?????? i always thought the noise gate was the last in the chain, please let me know guys,

all the best, bluesfloyd,

Re: ISP Noise Decimator G-String

I have my g string last with an a/b box after it , if I run my Ditto Looper it goes after the noise gate so I don't have to turn it down to not shut off the loops.

Place it before time based effects like delay, reverb, etc

Depends what you want to use it for, to cut out pre-amp noise or a noisy overdrive.

I run mine after my guitar signal, with an Ibanez Tubescreamer in the loop of the ISP G-string so my cleans aren't cut off when switching channels, it just quietens down the gain noise generated by the tubescreamer.

Re: ISP Noise Decimator G-String

I use my regular Decimator as the last pedal at the end of my pedal board and it works flawlessly, I do not have it in the effects loop. I use a lot of gain too, it hushes it all up no issues whatsoever. amazing products.

Re: ISP Noise Decimator G-String

ya, when you get it set up right like that, its hard to believe how good the decimatorgstring product is :)

I got the regular one too but haven't tried it yet before my pre-amp and after the overdrive, does it affect cleans if you switch?
