Re: ISP Noise Decimator G-String
No, you don't need an effects loop in your amp in order to appreciate the advantages of the Decimator G String over the standard Decimator. IMO, the G String model is easily worth the extra money, as it is so much more transparent, and so much more flexible/versatile. You can run it without anything in its loop. You can run it with all your effects in the loop, or with just some of them in the loop. You can do both of those things, but in the effects loop of an amp. You can also put the preamp of your amplifier in the pedal's effects loop. There are many, many ways to hook the thing up for what you determine to be its best use.
However, if you will not be running anything in the loop, you must use a patch cable to complete the loop anyhow. If you don't, the pedal does absolutely nothing.
I usually run my guitar or bass straight through it, just like a normal Decimator, using a short patch cable in the loop, because it's simple, quick, and effective. However, I have also tried all the other ways of hooking it up, and they all work great.
I was completely anti-noise-gate until I tried this pedal. The performance spoke for itself, and changed my mind. Although it was expensive, I felt that it was definitely worth it after playing my first gig with it.
