It only took me 34 years...

Re: It only took me 34 years...

Blackmore also used a hidden AC30 with the Marshalls live, because they gave a bite the Marshalls lacked. He described the 30W AC30 as louder than the 100W Marshall!

Yeah, I've heard this, too. I would love to have seen it. I wonder if he used the Marshall cabs. I am not sure how long he did this before switching totally over to Marshall. He had great tones then, too, but I was listening to 'Concerto for Group and Orchestra' last night, and man, I had never heard a Vox sound so good.

Update:

My buddy who runs the LGS ended-up sending the Tone King Metropolitan home with me to demo for a few days/weeks on Saturday. He's a slick salesman (besides being a good friend for 30 years). The Metro is amazing. So my Vox purchase is on hold. I still plan to get a hand-wired Vox, or boutique Vox clone (Matchless? Dr Z?) down the road. But right now I've been in tonal lust with the Metro. The rhythm channel is like such a fat, organic blackface Deluxe. And the lead channel is like a Tweed to a Plexi. He also sent a Strymon Sunset twin OD pedal home with me to try into the amp. Between all of the possibilities on the amp and that pedal, I've been busy exploring all of the tones in there. I'm sure that I have a long ways to go in exploring the gamut, but I sure have been enjoying the ride. WOW! I can sure nail down some sweet Eric Johnson, Bonamassa, etc tones with this rig.

I can't imagine me letting this setup go back to the store at this point. I would probably even be willing to let my beloved Friedman BE100 go before this rig at this point. This setup is so much more practical, and would be a great rig for country, blues, jazz, and rock. Whereas the Friedman halfstack is most suited to rock and hard rock of course. In a perfect world, both amps will stay. But I just found-out yesterday that I'm likely headed for a laminectomy on one of my neck discs/vertebra sometime this year (which will make it my fourth surgery in 2 years)... so I don't think that growing the stable of gear in the man cave at this point will be an option. Will have to be the usual "one-in, one-out" GAS policy.
