It's nice having a guitar again! NGD!

A quick search on the wiki solspirit linked showed that the Wizard 2 and 3 have the same thickness at the first and twelth fret. It might just come down to the individual feel of the guitar.

I went back and looked at that link, and I see what you're saying. Wow, very odd.

I hope you continue to enjoy that guitar. I really wanted to like it, but that feel thing was too much. I really liked the looks of that guutar.

It USED to just follow the Japanese tradition of naming models by ballpark MSRP figures (in 100's of yen ~= $USD). Second digit coded pickup options or other features.

Then things changed and they added +1000 to Prestige models (which used to mean MIJ, but not necessarily anymore)

Then they also made alternative/upgraded versions of Prestige 1000's (like 1550's etc) and just changed the first number (to 25xx, 35xx etc)

Basically, the HUNDREDS digit is (usually) the "model"... but not in this case I guess
The model number used to be commensurate with price and features. 5xx and up had to be MIJ, never Indo crap like this one.

The letter code is actually easy to deal with. FM means flame maple, Z for zero tremolo, R for rosewood and so on.

Some of the wiz2 have wider boards up high and some don't. Same with the wiz3. Also some of the wiz2 have flatter board radius.
Small differences but that can account for them not all feeling the same, even though they do all have the same depth measurements.

I prefer the wider flatter boards in part because they seem to feel better for me on the back as well as the front.
My rgt has a wiz2 that is narrower up high and not as flat radius,,,,,,and I still like it just fine, just not quite as much as the wiz-prestige which is the wider and flatter type with about a mm less depth.

when I started back playing a few years ago
I went the hard tail RG route as well
mine is the RG2EX1 in Jewel Blue with a Wizard II neck
I added JB/Jazz with Triple shot rings and Locking tuners
its a sweet axe

congrats

Ibanez makes some awesome guitars , whats the body wood made of?
is it super light like mine?

Thanks!

This phenom of neck specs having variance even though the manufacturer's kiterature suggests otherwiss, is something I have experienced amongst the Ibanez ART series guitars I own, although those variances seem less extreme in impact than this RG wizard II and III example. With the Ibanez ARTs, the only variance I have felt is how thick the C shape is, and its not a big variance at that.

If its like the one I tried a few years ago, yes, it's superlite. The marketing literature says its mahigany, which is interesting considering how lite it is (or at least, mine was).

Body is mahagony, neck is maple and fretboard is jatoba or rosewood. Probably the former. It's a very light guitar which is one reason I chose this one.

I've been trying some S and RG models for some time now. I liked some the HSH configurations but didn't want deal with locking trems. Pickups are pretty hot and I'll probably change them after I get some sort of amp.

I'm basically starting over on guitar as a whole hence, the title of the thread. Sold an old Princeton Chorus,Tubescreamer and an EHX Chorus/Vibrato. Only piece of gear in my home right now is that guitar.
