Ok, there has been a lot of Gibson bashing recently down to the looks of some of their recent guitars, but just remember that some of the other big names don't always get it right.

Quite frankly I've never been a big fan of BC Rich styling, they just look like ugly bits of junk to me, especially the mockingbird.
The Dean ML just looks clumpy and the headstock is way to big.
But today's pic is a Charvel.

Really, just why?

That's a repro of the old Charvel Star body from the '80s. It's not a rip-off of a Gus nothing and may even pre-date ESP as a company.

In fact, if anything, the Gus G model is a rip-off of the Charvel.

As a Jazz fan myself, I wouldn't mind trying this.

Women And Children First albun cover - EVH borrowed an Ibenhad Explorer from someone (Elsworth?) and hacked a chunk out the back. That was the first Star.

Akira Takasaki being a huge EVH fan had to have a Star, and ESPee had to have Akira, so there's the Random Star sig.

Not really. That is HIS Destroyer that he used on the first record that got hacked up.

Akira's first Star was a real Charvel, then ESP came out with their copy years later.

I don't know why that Star is laying on the cover of the VH1 album because the two aren't even connected in any way, shape or form.

Yes, but it would make more sense to lay a 70's Destroyer over it or the Star over a Loudness album.

The Charvel star body style isn't really my thing, and might look a tad dated these days, but in the early 80's, hanging from some hair metal guitarist, it looked pretty cool.

Personally, when I first saw the Dean Elite guitars in the late 70's, their appearance didn't really turn me on.

It's kind of an acquired taste.
Put gold hardware, an arched flame maple top and maybe a third pickup on it and suddenly I quite like it.

Personally, I never cared for this retro kind of look that seemed to be really big in the 90's and is still with us now:

...but then again, if I played rockabilly, cowboy punk or certain styles of pop, I'd look for a guitar like that.

And as to the original claim of this thread, yes it's true, Gibson's guitar designers are not the only ones good at dreaming up butt-ugly guitars. And actually, I thought the outcries at the ugliness of some of Gibson's designs had quieted down a bit more here in the last few weeks. Hasn't it been at least two weeks since the the threads about the dusk tiger guitar were hot on this forum?

My late 70's Mighty Mite Star..... Clearcoat refinned and original condition I bought it in back in '82 with medical tape, red latex over gray primer! :eyecrazy:
