It's that time again: gear showing!

I had to make some pics for the blog of my gear (and the insurance company wishes to know what I'm up to, as well).

So...

I wanna show you guys what I've been accumulating over the last decade. Hope you like 'm.

P1130065_zpsaf6006c3.jpg

all my purple, green and blue guitars. (as the thread that's going on here!)
P1130061_zps2c31c822.jpg

all my quilt tops
P1130059_zps2f2149c4.jpg

all my singlepiece tops. the quilt top will get another PATB pickup for the middle position to make it look more even. Gold covers, cream rings...
P1130049_zpsa870d061.jpg

my vintage inspired series. from left to right: Joe Bonamassa set. antiquity set. some old crap but sounds amazing. Sheptones.
P1130047_zpsa51b0fdf.jpg

my most extreme builds so far. Love them (and they're very similar in woods, by the way, but completely different feel; left is like the wolfgang, right is really a les paul)
P1130045_zps163692e1.jpg

my main guitars. 3 crimsons, 4 warmoth's. Love them. man, these guitars are so sick... (my singlepiece top guitars and the vintage series I have are also part of the rig).
P1130039_zps93e6e229.jpg

all the guitars that don't fall in the 'quilt maple flamed maple koa' categories. Tops are purpleheart, padouk, rosewood, wenge, korina, walnut, bubinga. I didn't list them in order; you guys can figure out which is which :D

my koa tops.
P1130026_zps523c0240.jpg

my flamed maple top guitars.

I don't always have a rosewood board or neck, but when I do, it's brazilian.

I did not include the fender style guitars since I'm missing one important part of the group (walnut thinline with a solid ebony neck). will get that guitar in a few weeks...

My god are you planing on opening up a shop or something? Im sure you don't play all of those?

Re: It's that time again: gear showing!

I must say that is absolutely mind boggling. Loads of awesome on tap. You have a beautiful family.

I like the guitar rack in the last photo. Did you build that yourself? Do you have any photos or tips for building one like it?

Re: It's that time again: gear showing!

You don`t like LPs much, do yo? :D :beerchug:

I knew you had some real lookers, but I didn`t know you were quite as insane as you appear to be. There are large stores that have nowhere as near as many LPs as you do, hell even Jolly looks like a beginner in comparison :chairfall

Now I definitely need to come visit you sometime, if nothing else to try the Crimsons and SD Zephyrs. ;)

yeah, that rack is my own handywork haha. I needed a huge rack for my guitars and I was too bored, cheap and lazy to go out and buy one. I have little tips, actually, besides: make it sturdy! I used 3 large round pieces of timber (2.5'' thick I suppose?) and some flat pieces to make the framework. the bottom of the guitar rests between two round pieces (covered in padded leather is optional) and the necks also rest against a similar piece (padding VERY MUCH recommended!). some big chunks of wood to make the 'feet' and sides and a middle support and bam, in 2 hours you're done :)

You're partially right on both accounts.

I do not plan on opening a shop, but I do plan on creating my own line of guitars. Let's call them 'Orpheo's ' for the time being. These guitars serve as reconnaisance, test beds and experience; what is it I want, what is it I don't want, what should be changed etc etc. I play of my collection perhaps just 16 guitars. My 3 crimsons, my floyd rose les pauls, my zephyr les pauls, my 4 singlepiece top les pauls, my 2 oldest warmoths, my vintage styled guitars, my 2 '59 replica's, and that's kinda everything. the rest is there well... to be there. Some guitars serve really a purpose, for example the green one; superlight weight, thin neck, plays fast and light. that thing is for when I'm ill or when my back hurts too much. playing 5+ kilo guitars (11 pounds) isn't always fun. but the tone... the tone.... None of my guitars with the notable exception of my hollowbody LP, is chambered. they're all solid. so if the mahogany and maple is 3 kilo's, it's really 3 kilo's. but if it's 5, I'll just have to live and learn with that.

about the rack. I forgot to mention that I made it higher than needed. the guitars are 2 to 3 inches above the floor, making it supereasy to vacuum underneath them!! Most racks are just too low!

Re: It's that time again: gear showing!

Well if you ever decide one is too heavy or you just don't like it just go ahead an ship it to me and ill take good care of it.

Re: It's that time again: gear showing!

That is actually not a bad idea. not for you, personally, but i have an idea what to do with this family when I pass away. I want the guitars and amps I own to go in a foundation, let's tentatively call it the Orpheo foundation (narcissism is nothing strange to me :D ), and that foundation has the liberty to lend out the guitars to young, up coming guitarists who feel their gear is holding them back. The guitars will remain property of the foundation (aka: my family!), but I want something similar to the constructions you see in the world of classical music, where major talents can borrow or lend or whatever a great violin, cello, etc etc.

Re: It's that time again: gear showing!

Gorgeous family you've got there! I've got a weakness for flamed maple on Les Pauls (need to get one someday). If you ever want to send one to me, I wouldn't be opposed! :D

Re: It's that time again: gear showing!

That's nothing short of a stunning collection of gear. You're the exact kind of person that I have to ask - what is it that you do for a living? Lol. I gotta give you credit for knowing what you like and sticking with it although if I were you I'd never know what guitar to ever pick up.

Re: It's that time again: gear showing!

Dude, crazy nice looking guitars there. Love the extreme figured tops with vibrant finishes, and the natural sides and backs! Very PRS Blue Matteo, but on steroids!

Re: It's that time again: gear showing!

no clips. never. ever. I don't believe in clips.

my job? that's personal ;) but let's put it this way: I don't go out much, I don't smoke, I don't drink and I work my ass off ;)

Re: It's that time again: gear showing!

Kinda surprised you haven't used a Schaller Hannes bridge on anything. Or do you just prefer the traditional setup for fixed bridge?

Re: It's that time again: gear showing!

I prefer a regular set up, because I use the length of string behind but and bridge every once in a while. can't do that with the banners. besides... that bridge looks wrong on a Lester, IMHO.

indeed, I am no fan of sound clips, simply because it shows an incomplete picture. you hear the pickup as part of a huge signal chain. for a properco.passion, you'd need several clips of the same instrument with several pickups, amps etc etc. I find it a waste of my money and time to invest in recording equipment.

We're not asking for clips as a demonstration of a pickup, just a demonstration of your rig, what you sound like, etc.

Durp durp

I know, but I was speaking in general terms. could've elaborated on that a bit more I suppose.
