The Drama Dude
After playing my new dean a bunch over the past few days, I've come to the following conclusions about the DMT Baker Act:
1) It has a distinctly JBish kinda tone to it. Really present biting upper mids.
2) The low end is a lot tighter than the JB
3) the mids are not as harsh/spikey
4) It's a really rocking pickup. Lots of attack on the notes courtesy of the upper mids, but it can also clean up really nicely, and is quite responsive to picking dynamics.
5) harmonics everywhere, sorta like the JB.
I've said many times before, the JB sounds like if you took a perfectly good Duncan Custom, ramped up the output, and then put the whole pickup in a 3D sonic vise, with a tiny hole so the upper mids escape from there in a tinny, shrill mess....meanwhile, Chris farley is farting while emitting his trademark high pitched whine. loose, flabby bass, lots of girth, and a whole helluva lot of ear-piercing unnatural mids.
The Baker Act, IMO is what the JB should've been. It's got that girth and output, but with tight bass and a smoothed out EQ on the mids, though still very present.
It makes my Jet City JCA100H sound like a cranked plexi, sorta. :headbang:
