What do you guys use to polish your axes? I've been using 100% cotton t-shirts for years, but I wondered if there is something more hi-tech? Your thoughts please...

Re: IYO: Best polishing cloth?

i use what i use when i detail cars, my own show car and daily driver included (i was a pro car detailer for years doing high end cars and custom show cars) all i use are microfiber towels...it will not scratch a thing and is softer than anything else you can use. far better than t-shirts and diapers!! i'm real anal abut keeping my cars and guitars clean and swirl/scratch free so it's the only thing i use.

here ya go this is where i order all my car detailing stuff and they have good quality microfiber...

or you can even check a local pepboys or similar large autoparts store they should have them too but of a bit less quality (usually made by turtlewax). these are still good and soft/safe to use just not the pro-grade stuff like in the link above.

just a note if you do buy one or however many (they are great for the car also so i'd get extras) when it's time to clean it, wash it alone not with other materials b/c it will pick up the lint from them...so follow whatever cleaning info it gives you.

Re: IYO: Best polishing cloth?

I've been using peices cut from U.S. Army Issue undershirts for quite some time now. I always use it to wipe of the neck and strings as soon as I get done playing.

As for the body, I usually pick up a Fender polishing cloth from the guitar store, They don't need to be replaced very often, cuz I don't really need to polish that often....

Re: IYO: Best polishing cloth?

i'm not sure what cloth i used, but it sure did a nice job of making those hairline scratches all over the front. :blackeye:

Re: IYO: Best polishing cloth?

i'll let ya know if i ever get around to doing it

Re: IYO: Best polishing cloth?

i've got a couple fender's and i think one planet waves cloths.

Re: IYO: Best polishing cloth?

I fyou want as cheap microfiber cloth, just go to your opticians . . . they have 2-3 $ microfiber cloths that they sell as part of glasses cleaning kits . . . thats what I use

Mike,

Thanks. I've been using t-shirts for years, but I'm off to Pep Boys!
