He wants to sell it so that it can be played. That's a laugh. Only a wealthy collector will pay that price for it, and believe me, it will never be played. He must be having financial troubles, or he would have donated it to Hard Rock cafe somewhere. At least when Clapton sells his instruments, he knows that only collectors will pay that price, and he dumps the money into the rehab center he is associated with in Bermuda.

Ridiculous! ...but g/d, it is gorgeous.

My bandmate's dad, Paul Shapiro, played guitar in a band that later supplied some members to the J. Geils Band, called The Hallucinations (http://funkyjudge.net/geils/j-geils-band/196568-the-hallucinations/). He was offered a late '50's Les Paul Standard in trade for a Melody Maker at some point in the mid 1960's. But they were not high demand or expensive guitars yet, so he passed, keeping the shiny Melody Maker instead! D'oh! I wonder if the guitar he was offered was the same one that J. Geils ended up getting.

But he is a great painter! My bandmate has some of his stuff up in his apartment.

I know J Geils was a more significant band than I'm giving them credit for with my joke, but my first exposure to J Geils was that song! :chairfall



It looks like his main guitar nowadays is an ES-335

It's effectively original. I think the price is utterly ridiculous BUT the electronics are original to the guitar and the other stuff is period-correct replacement, meaning nobody would know one way or the other. I consider it a show of good character that they actually disclosed that info, at all.

Check out all the internet keyboard samurai's *****ing and whining about the price. Obviously you can't afford it and he is free to ask whatever price for it he sees fit, so whats the point coming in here and complaining that its not original and the asking price? or who will most likely buy it.

Its cool enough to see a '59 for sale and see nice photos of a real one, beats looking at fake relics all the time.

I dont know who the guy is, but that's NOT a very good looking Les Paul IMO.
