Not quite the same.

If you're spending that much on an Epi Custom + upgrades, I'd rather get the Edwards, personally. About the same end cost, and you end up with a better guitar (IMO).

I personally think that Epis (like Gibsons) are wildly incosistent. Sometimes you win the lottery and find a killer one. But most of the time, you don't.

That was certainly the case prior to 2020. Since then, there has been massive improvements. I've picked up a bunch from different local shops, LPs, SGs, Vs, semi-hollows. All them were excellent. Much better than the prior generation of Epi's. I almost bought a Epi Goldtop LP a couple years ago then remembered I had a kid going in to college....lol. I've not played an Edwards in person so I have no idea how they compare to Epi's side by side other than what I read on the various forums.

I don't agree. I got two Epis last year. One sounded good, but the frets were lifting off the fretboard. The other sounds meh. Neither were lower-end.

Both look pretty, though. Except for the new headstock. It looks good on the Custom-types, but it looks like like a paddle on the Standard-types. JMO, of course.

I've always been dubious of Epiphone. One of my first guitars was a Speciall II which was a POS that left a bad taste in my mouth. I acknoledge that was a very low-end guitar, though. I thought I'd give them a chance now that there's a lot of hype about the 2020 revival. Meh. What bothers me the most is that even for being the "official" Les Paul Copy (and you pay extra for that), they don't really get the Les Paul details any closer to the real than any other budget Les Paul copy.

I can see your points there. Every rose has its thorn, so to speak...lol.

How much is that, about 10 grand?

That's why I am getting a Black Epiphone LPC, hopefully a " Husk " w/ no hardware or electronics, drop in a Seymour Duncan Screamin Demon for the neck, a Carvin M22SD pickup for the bridge, a Wilkinson Roller bridge, a Schaller tailpiece with fine tuners and all chrome pickguard / hardware.
