Jackhammer high gain tones?

Pierre

Stratologist
Right now I'm out of a high gain distortion. I play mostly blues but I enjoy my metal so the lack of it is felt :( I usually boost a cranked up Guv'nor with the TS side of the route 66 (modded by yours truly of course, new chip and LED+diode in series for one side of the clipping section). So I get enough gain but it's a little noisy (though tolerable) and not exactly the sound I expect.
How much gain does the Jackhammer have? I can't find many clips...
Also is it one of these pedals like the Guvnor, designed to be plugged into a Marshall to get the same tone at lower volume? My amp has a JCM800 preamp pretty much but a dual 6V6s power section for 30W.
What else would you advise for the same kind of tone, very high gain Marshall basically, that's less than 60 British pounds?

Re: Jackhammer high gain tones?

One of the EHX metal muffs sounds like it would be good for ya. I use one myself infront of my JMP 2203, which is basically a JCM 800. There are a couple of versions of the pedal, i've got the biggest one. Sounds killer.

Re: Jackhammer high gain tones?

I read somewhere that it's basically a muff circuit with added boost and EQ... I already have a Big Muff and it certainly won't do metal. So the metal muff sounds different then? I must say I haven't tried one but the pedal does seem cool.

Re: Jackhammer high gain tones?

From what I've heard, an MI Audio Crunch Box will do a nice roaring JCM 800 sound but I'm not quite sure if it'll be high-gain enough for you. www.miaudio.com

I borrowed my mates Marshall Jackhammer for a short while and while it is in a similar style as the Crunch Box and more gainy it doesn't sound as toneful to me. It's definitely a pedal you should try before you buy if you can considering it's so reasonably priced and readily available.

Re: Jackhammer high gain tones?

Damn I just heard the soundclips and hell, even if it's not high gain, I don't care, I want one! That is one NICE sounding pedal right there...There's always the risk that it'd sound totally different and not as good with my rig though.

Re: Jackhammer high gain tones?

should try metal muff or watch it in youtube.
there are the demo.
cause mtal muff and older muff the sound diffrence. :)

Re: Jackhammer high gain tones?

Not too bad... Indeed it's not a muff! I'll have to try one out.

How are the old Shredmasters?

Re: Jackhammer high gain tones?

I have no need for a pedal like this. I'm never been amazingly found of his tones either, they're always pretty generic to me ;) Thanks anyway!
I basically just need a high gain Marshall tone. Just that one. Stomp it on, stomp it off, and that's all.

Re: Jackhammer high gain tones?

wait for the Lava Box!just one month more ,and you have a killer pedal!

the JackHammer is "not" a really hi-gain pedal. It's more like a JCM 800 wich is not so hi-gain either.

If you want to try the rocktron ,go with the Rampage
if you like to try A Digitech ,think twice and stay away!hahahah:D
If you want a Boss ,the Mega Distortion has a cool feeling

Re: Jackhammer high gain tones?

Rocktrons don't exist in Scotland pretty much. No one sells them :(
Isn't the Lava Box a low gain overdrive? :s I'd never have the 150 pounds needed for it anyway. My budget is looooow... But it should be enough for an ok pedal to later, maybe, mod.

Re: Jackhammer high gain tones?

I had a Jackhammer and it is an OK pedal...sounds better on the OD setting than the distortion, though. The distortion side had so much low end that it sounds kid of synthlike, which didn't appeal to me. I use a Crunchbox now and it walks all over the Jackhammer soundwise.

Re: Jackhammer high gain tones?

I'm quite tempted by the crunch box to be honest. There are no dealers in the UK though :( Too bad because with the current $ to pound ratio I could get one for less than 70 pounds, technically. Meeeeh :'(

Re: Jackhammer high gain tones?

Line 6 Uber metal hands down covers rock to metal tones with better distortion tones than the other pedals out there and a tube amp will still clean up with the volume when using these pedals if on the less heavy settings.Just have to use a adapter they devour batteries. I`ve recomended this to many players who have all loved the pedal.

Re: Jackhammer high gain tones?

I used to have it but as much as it was a great pedal, I didn't like any of the settings it had. And I couldn't use a power supply (too skint for one) so it wasn't for me in the end, I sold it to a local shop.

From the MI Audio homepage:

"11.12.2006 MI Audio in Europe! January will see MI Audio heading back to the EU now that pedals are nearly RoHS compliant. Our current dealers in the Netherlands, Greece, Italy and Finland will be restocked with MI Audio pedals. We also have new dealers for Germany, France, UK, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Sweden and Norway some of which are to be announced in the coming weeks"

Fingers crossed ay that they'll be in the UK soon enough.
