Anyone ever play and old Jackson amp? Im not talking about the Lee Jackson amp, Im talking about ones sold by jackson guitar and made by Laney. If so, how was it??

Re: Jackson amps /Laney??

You might wanna post about it on Laney-Posse.co.uk board, however, not to hijack the thread but I believe one of the highly demanded Lee Jackson mods for 800s was an extra gain stage which later also became one of the ideas for later AORs.

Re: Jackson amps /Laney??

It has been talked about on the Laney forums that the Jackson amps, from Jackson guitars, were built by Laney for Jackson and are much like Pro-Tubes. I do see some parallels between the two inside the Jackson chassis. It is oddly a bit similar but not identical.

I have never heard verification from either Jackson or Laney on this subject.

An AOR is a Pro-Tube with an extra gain stage, and an AOR is regularly described as an 800 with an extra gain stage. Even though an AOR has the extra gain stage, it is still a Pro-Tube, which is the name of the line.

Generally speaking, the Pro-Tubes are a like a darker Marshall. Where the Marshall has the really strong upper-mids, the Pro-Tube is focused a bit lower in the mids and will give you a better "grind". Dr.Mavashi can point you to some vids of the band "The Sword" that display that grind real well.

Sound is hard to describe as descriptive words mean different things to different people, but there is a vid on YouTube that I kinda like:

This AOR 50 series II is setup a bit brighter and sounds more Marshally. It should give you a sense of that sound. I now have 4 AOR's, 2 50 watters and 2 100 watters and have them setup in different ways, each delivering a bit of a different sound.

I think the Jackson amp would be worth a good listening to. Give it a try BR. :) Tell us what you think of it. I just want to say again that Laney manufacturing the amp is something I haven't seen verified.
