Jackson dxmg pickups

I just purchased a Jackson DXMG and it came with EMG HZ3s in it. What Seymour Duncan pickups could I replace it with? Basswood body, bolt on maple neck with Floyd Rose. I like to play rock and roll and some metal. Could I put in SH 2n Jazz and JB 4 in it? What would it sound like with a basswood body? Please recommend - help. Tnanks.

Re: Jackson dxmg pickups

You can put whatever you like in it! A JB/Jazz set would work yes, other people have done that with those guitars and like it. It's pretty much the stock pickup config on two humbucker Jacksons so it must be doing something right. I have those in my DK2M and they sound great.

You say you play "rock and roll", do you mean Chuck Berry or Motorhead? It's a pretty generic term. The JB will do for Motorhead, but for styles less....energetic!...you might want to think of something less high output like a '59.

Yeah, what he said ^^

Personally I'd go for a Custom 5 or Custom Custom in the bridge and the JB or 59 in the neck, but that's just me.

What's the amp situation?

Also, when you strum this guitar acoustically, what's it sound like: warm? Bright? Balanced?

Depending on these factors, some may recommend different things. In a shred stick though, I'm partial to a PATB-3b and a PATB-1n. Gets a good, Gibsony tone out of most any long scale, floyded axe.

Re: Jackson dxmg pickups

The Jackson DK2m has a maple body. I have the basswood body. Would there be a big difference since maple is heaver and better wood than the lighter basswood. I like the heavy rock and roll and metal.

Re: Jackson dxmg pickups

I wouldn't call it "better." Brighter and more articulate would be more accurate. But, yes, there would be a difference. I personally wouldn't have gone with a JB/Jazz in a maple guitar, but I'm using Livewire Metals, so you probably shouldn't listen to me. :D

I think the JB/Jazz combo would be a pretty good combo based on what you've said so far. You might could go with a hotter set, depending on what kind of amp you're using.

Yes. And for "heavy rock and roll and metal" the JB/Jazz set will work great, although like Newc I'd prefer a 59 to a Jazz in the neck. You can get a JB pretty cheap on ebay these days, even over here in the UK, they're ten a penny now although it's much harder to find anything else unless you want to pay over the odds.

So, unless you live in the USA, I'd say the JB/59 combo would be ideal for you.
