Or you could go for the MII's, pretty much the same thing without the inlays for cheeper.

A Jackson USA is worth it if you want to play early '80's styled metal. And you want Erie Dess Swirl--Whoo boy, now you're talkin' my style!

I own a RR1 and I got mine for $629 used--playable!

I won't go into details, but I walked into Guitar Center (or Horror Center, depending ) one night and lo and behold it was on the wall.

I applaud your holding out for one because good things come to he who waits.
I almost took out a loan :smack: .

The KV2 is the shiznit. I love mine. It's my second. Extremely comfortable, superbly balanced and fast as ****. not to mention the looks.

Oh, this KV2 was quality. It was only about a year old and played just slightly better that the RR1 from pre Fender days.

well i dont know about the rr1 but i own a rr5 with two JB pickups in it and it sounds amazing. i would assume that a rr1 would be even better. i cant imagine how it can get better than the one i got but im sure there is a difference. i know mines not usa made but it is still amazing. i dont think you would be disapointed with this investment.

Maybe it's just me, but I compare what I experienced today to the the difference between an Epiphone Les Paul, and a Gibson Les Paul--times 3. No offense to anyone who owns one, this is just my interpretation, but the RR3 felt like a toy compared to the RR1 and KV2. Much bigger difference between the Jacksons than the Gibson/Epiphones as far as feel and sound. Mostly feel.

As I said, once you go USA there's no going back.

The USA necks are just awesome. I love my SL-2 Limited Edition (it has an oiled neck rather than a painted one which makes it even nicer).

The only reason I say that is a guitar you have always wanted will let you down if it doesn't play well.

Find which model plays well for you. Then you can hold onto it for a good long spell and want to play it. Good luck.

Thank you very much. I'm extremely glad I took the ride to GC to try out the guitars. I would have been not happy with the RR3. I also did a check on completed auctions on fleabay and besides one brand new RR1 that went for $1900+ (0 feedback buyer), the highest was about $1300 with most around a grand. I'm now going to wait until the right one comes along. Gonna hit some more guitar shops over the next few weeks and try out some more RR1s just to see if the quality changes from guitar to guitar or if I can feel safe buying one used without playing it (yikes!). I'm pretty good at setting them up the way I like them.

I'd say USA Jacksons are very consistent. I've bought 2 without having played them and I wasn't sorry in the least. They do have different neck so from a KE2 to a KV2 to a SL2H. The KV2 has the fastest neck the KE2 probably the slowest of the three. But all play superbly. Great guitars. Just wish they used different woods. They still sound great though and much better than my 8 lbs Bich thats made of mahogany LOL!

I recommend contacting www.mattsmusic.com or www.vwallguitars.com and getting an exact price quote. Jackson has a MAP policy, so they can´t advertise below a certain price... but that doesn´t mean they can´t sell them for less

As far as consistency: a USA Jackson or Charvel is the only guitar I´ve ever played that I´ll buy new sight unseen (used I´m a bit more linient) and not have butterflies about possible regrets. Everything else I refuse to buy without playing it first :beerchug:

Oh my god the RR3 is complete ****.


I had an RR-1... Very nice guitar. Played insanely well, yes. Looked awesome, played amazing, had the tendency to kill string life, but was an awesome guitar.

Cons, and why I ultimely sold it:

It sounded like complete ass. No wood back near the bridge = no balls to the sound.

That was my only complaint really, besides the size of the case. Otherwise, it was an awesome guitar. I generally go for more of a crushing brutal sound, rather than a cutting edgy sound, which the RR-1 was made for, IMO.

I'd honestly get an SL1 or SL2H over the RR-1. Look into those!

That said, I really wish I was still into 6 strings, so I could snag an RR-1T. They definately are the easiest playing guitars standing up, and look so badass.

FWIW though, I never once regretted selling my RR-1 for a Schecter C-1 Classic and C-7Hellraiser

The RR1s and most USA Jacksons sound like complete ass because the pickups are HORRIBLY mismatched for the woods IMO. You don't take a BRIGHT BRIGHT BRIGHT guitar then put a JB in there....great pickup...HORRIBLE match. That's why there's no balls to the sound. The SL1, SL2 and RR1 ALL suffer from this IMO.


I took that JB out and put a Super Distortion and Super3 in those guitars and they got all the balls back. It's not the lack of wood on the RR1...it's the pickup choice...trust me.


Great guitars though...I think they are some of the best super-strats out there....if you like the neck shape...which is a little too wide and flat for...which was a deal-breaker for me on those guitars. I otherwise liked everything else about them.

I have to agree on the PU choice, the JB is IMO a real mismatch, the Custom or Distortion sound 1000X better

Though I´ve never had balance issues on neckthru kellies before... the bolt-ons dive like Louganis, but the neckthrus hang just as well as any other Jackson IMO, just at a slightly different angle...

And I would totally stay away from any series Kelly. I've had three of those and while they're very comfortable to play sitting down they're very top heavy. So unless you're cool with moving the front strap button to the side of the guitar instead of the back don't waste your time.

I refuse to lay out any money for ANY Kelly until Jackson takes their head out of their you-know-what and fixes that stupid balance problem. That guitar is horrible to play standing up unless you re-drill the strap buttons for a different positioning.

And no....I will not use a huge stupid leather strap....I'm not SRV.
