James Gang Tone..

Re: James Gang Tone..

1. Antiquitys
2. Seth Lover
3. 59
4. Pearly Gates

All of those are based on the vintage paf's like Joe Walsh has in his old Les Pauls.

Re: James Gang Tone..

id say something along the lines of a jazz or 59. kinda vintagey and bright but not thin

Re: James Gang Tone..

Keep in mind that a lot of James Gang stuff was recorded with a Tele - Funk 49 is a good example.

Re: James Gang Tone..

What kind of guitar are you using.

I have a tele with a QP that gets me pretty close and my LP Special has an SP-90-3 which isn't too far away either. In my LP Standard I use an A2P but the top end is probably a bit to smooth so maybe a Seth?

Re: James Gang Tone..

I'm using a MichaelKelly LP Copy. Great guitar as far as playability and looks, stock pups are just that though.. stock lol. They are great for most players, But I'm a tone junky.
I was thinking a set a 59's would be great to try.

Re: James Gang Tone..

I can't believe I didn't see LP in your first post. Brain damaged!!!!

59's would probably be a great place to start. Get 'em 4 wire and set up splits and you can do some cool stuff with them for sure.

Re: James Gang Tone..

At least in the neck they do. I have never run a 59 bridge in any of my own guitars.

Re: James Gang Tone..

I'm with everyone else on the 59's or Jazz's.

I've came closest to the Joe Walsh "Life's been Good" tone with A5 PAF style pups...they were actually my factory Schallers The jazz would be the best option IMO because it has more mids than the 59, but either would get you close.
