Re: Japanese Ibanez RG

Oh c'mon who is the Ibanez master of the Duncan forum?

You have a 1997 RG517. The 517 is basically a 570, but with the sparkle finish. The colors were blue, green and silver. The blue is most common, followed by the green and then silver.

Super wizard neck, basswood body, Edge tremolo, Gotoh hardware, and V series pups.

Nothing on that guitar needs changing except the pups.

The 470 is a couple model below that one, and worth considerably less than $350.

Swap you my yellow strat for it.

Cool, I knew someone on here would know the low down on it.

Re: Japanese Ibanez RG

The TRS is really not that bad of a trem, but compared to say an Edge or OFR...

I can set one up to work great, but I would not seek out a guitar with one.

Re: Japanese Ibanez RG

Sorry guys but I believe this is a 570... I've had the exact same guitar for about 8-9 years... 1997 also. At least everything I read about it when I bought it (including the catalog back then) listed it as a 570.

Great player, super thin neck, ok stock pick-ups (the neck was really good, bridge soso).

Sold mine last year. I don't miss it but it was still a pretty good guitar.

Re: Japanese Ibanez RG

Dude, you must be in Bama!! I have almost owned that guitar 4 times!!! Originally was being sold at Nuncies music, Downtown B'ham. Is indeed a '97 RG517, original finish "Bassboat Blue". I was making decision to buy it or another guitar, and waited a few hours to long apparently. They sold it out from under me even after putting a deposit down!!! I then saw it and almost bought it from Bailey Bro's downtown. Then later in a private trade. Then saw it today and thought about it, but it's not meant to be, LOL! Nice guitar though, and small world.

It is a 570 in every way but the custom finish. They designated the metalflake finished 570's as 517 for whatever reason.

Re: Japanese Ibanez RG

My old ibanez catalog has that RG in it and it is a regular mij 570 only with a metal flake finish. Nice guitar worth more than your asking price of $350! if i were not broke from buying a 770 reissue i would be all over this RG!

I have no idea where it came from originally. I am from Bama though, so your prob. right. Private owner traed it to my buddies shop in Hartselle and I got it off him. If I liked anything other than LP's it would have a home!

As for it being worth more than I'm asking, it books for a little over $600 in 90% cond., but if someones within' driving distance wants it, they could have it for $300 cash..............

Exactly what I was saying... I had that exact guitar (same finish and all), which was always referred to as a 570 in the catalog for that year... but whatever. Good guitar for 350 bucks.

Re: Japanese Ibanez RG

It is a RG517. I put a green one together off parts I found off Ebay. Great guitar for what you're asking.
