Re: Jay Turser quality

at some point, you stop listening with your eyes ... my number 1 and number 1a guitars are both substantially less aesthetically pleasing than my other 3 ... but they feel and sound best

Re: Jay Turser quality

Maybe a Reverend would be more to your liking.

Re: Jay Turser quality

It's the ever lasting battle of sound and fuction vs looks. The older I get, the more sound and function win. But then again I have always thought that looks were not the place to invest money. Some of the greatest and most recognisable guitars are quite "plain when you think about it".

Clampton - Black Strat
Page - Burst Les Paul ( amazing, but common )
BB King - Black hollow body Epiphone
Knopfler - Red Strat

Im just trying to say : Is the most important thing in a guitar the way people look at it? Perhaps the best way to impress them is thru playing a simple guitar in an amazing way, wich makes looks a non factor.

Don't forget:

Neil Young - Old Black (gold top, painted black, now interesting pickup choice)
Keith Richards - Tele

Very true. I find those are the guitars that are the most epic. Nothing beats old school vintage classic.

Re: Jay Turser quality

Buy it! Fudge all these haters. I understand more than most that if you like the way it looks, nothing else matters. :D

That's not true. But taking chances is fun!

Re: Jay Turser quality

the jay turser i have is a stunning looker ,i had duncans put in it and now it sounds as badd ass as it looks.im completely satisfied with mine.

Re: Jay Turser quality

Who's Clampton? :alcoholic

Dude get the JT , drop decent P-90 in it , maybe pots ,caps..heck the worst it could need a frett level/dress and you will have a nice axe

Re: Jay Turser quality

Dude....one maker for you

www.hammguitars.com

all guitars under 300$ Canadian and come with a gig bag :)
I have one and it just rocks.

www.guitarscanada.com/Board

for LOTS more information. If you live in Canada you can even try the guitar out COMPLETELY free

anyway, yeah, lots of people have bought hamm guitars already, so yeah, check them out. They wont stay this price for long I bet!

edit: Another nice thing is the pickups. Most cheaper guitars (sub 600$) come with crap pickups. This guitars pickups were GREAT stock. Couldnt believe it.

you dont have to get a burst...they offer solid colors too. :|

but wow...not liking a burst? Come on...

You are not going to find a better guitar than the hamm for under 500$

Re: Jay Turser quality

I have a Turser P Bass. It could use a pickup replacement (though I say that about nearly every instrument I touch), but other than that it's a very nice instrument. I got it for a steal from a friend in Calgary who opened a music store in the 'burbs - basically at cost - in exchange for doing a bit of research of his competitors for him.

I have no complaints about the build quality and materials. It even came out of the box with a good setup. The hardware and electronics are where they really cut corners, but that's also the easiest stuff to replace if you care to. I haven't upgraded it from stock yet, and it does a fine job at what I want it for: simple bass lines for my recordings.

Now if I were a serious bass player and I wanted to start gigging as a bassist or audition for a band, I'd get something better - probably a MIM or used MIA Fender or EBMM. As it is, the thing never leaves the house and it's working out well enough for what I want it for, so I don't really care enough to get a better bass. It looks pretty nice too (black w. tort guard and vintage tint neck).

Re: Jay Turser quality

Buy one, then you'll know all about them.
If you hate it . . well sell it off and buy an epiphone.

Re: Jay Turser quality

Are they up there with Agile/SX and what not for wood quality? I know some of the forum bros have some. I've found a sweet one on e-bay and want to know what the quality will be like. i know they're cheap guitars but I'm hoping for a pleasant suprise. :fingersx:

I'm really having trouble understanding you.

You're looking at all these $100 guitars and beginner guitars and asking about wood quality?

There's an old addage that is truer in the guitar world than any where else, You get what you pay for. If you want a $100 guitar, expect it to be like one.

Instead of getting all these beginner guitars and starting all these projects, save up all the money that you'll spend and still be unhappy, and buy a NICE guitar. Go to guitar center or some ma and pop shop, don't look at price tags and play just about everything. You'll learn a lot about the divide between the lowend and the highend and learn what good quality woods sound like. When you find what you like, save up until you can buy exactly that guitar, don't settle for a copy or some project intended to be similar.

If you can't afford to do that, then you'll have to wait till you have a job. But at least you'll have some direction. And don't judge things because they don't look like something you designed on some virtual builder. Judge them by their tone. Being unique is one thing, sacrificing tone for looks is being a poser.
