i just bought an early 70's Ibanez lawsuit special......the blantant ripoff of the Gibson ES175 right down to the Gibson headstock. What pickups would you guys recommend? Pickups appropriate for blues, jazz and classic rock

Re: jazz box pickups

Ijust ordered the Seth anniversaries for my R9, but i was a bit worried that they are not potted and might feedback like a mutha in an archtop

Re: jazz box pickups

alnico pro II- a great jazz sound out of any guitar i have tried em in.

Just not the Jazz, as it isn't so good for, um, jazz...way too bright.

Re: jazz box pickups

This may come off as a shameless self plug, but I have just the pickup for you if you're looking for a great jazz pickup... a PRS Vintage Bass neck pickup. It's fat, not bright, smooth and warm. It's probably too dark for a lot of people, but the pickup really excels for that sweet old jazz tone.

Re: jazz box pickups

Seth Lovers would sound great. I had a semi-Hollow with Seths, played
loud enough to get feedback and never had pickup squeel. If you
lean the guitar against a cranked stack, you probably would, but
your jazz box would have long since exploded, so who cares.

Re: jazz box pickups

Can't you order a seth lover to be wax potted as a Floor Shop Custom at no extra charge? If so, then the only down side would be waiting a few weeks.

Re: jazz box pickups

The Chris, have you ever tried a PRS Vintage Bass in a semi-hollow? You think it might be too muddy or thick for jazz?

+ 1 for the Alnico II Pro. For Jazz it sounds like Wes in a Box. Now all you will need is a blackface Priceton or a Deluxe:fingersx:

Re: jazz box pickups

Ditto the AII or the Seth...feedback is more about the rest of the setup; string gauges, bridge style, laminated vs solid top, EQ/gain settings, etc.
