Jazz bridge doing metal

Re: Jazz bridge doing metal

Who would have thought that the Jazz Bridge could do a 'Master of Puppets' type tone?

I've always said the Jazz Bridge is the one Duncan you could put in any position in any guitar and play any style of music, and it'll sound good. It just has a really balanced and articulate sound....even with the crushing gain you used.

People just have to forget the words Jazz, trebly, and low output. Pickups don't need to do anything but shape the sound. When playing, you can feel that it has less magnetic power than a Custom, for example. But with whatever amp you use, you might find that the Jazz or 59 has a more natural tone. Some of those pickups are Seymour's favorites, and there has to be a reason why......it's because he knows.

I think the EMG 85 modelled of Jazz Bridge!Sounds really similar!

You'll have a hard time believing this, but its actually substantially tighter/more articulate than the 85. They're similar in that they've got a nice full body too em though.

Thank you for posting this clip. PM sent to Martinsixstringcustoms...

My new LP might need an upgrade...

Not trying to steal away from your awesomeness or anything on this Amir, but here's my take of some heavy rockin groove crap with the Jazzes as well man. I think everyone needs a set of these in at least one guitar they own. That is if it has mahogany in it. I've been tryin to push these pickups on folks around here for years. I'm just glad to see that some people have found about about them finally and how great they are bro. Keep on jammin man!!:)

I have yet to find anything that it does not do really well in either position!!!!! This is by far the most versatile pickup on the planet! It does it all really well too if you have an amp that is worth a darn.

Re: Jazz bridge doing metal

Hey Amir, for each clip what guitar were the pickups in?? I mean the PATB, the EMG, Full Shred, and Jazz of course. And in which position were the pickups in?? Were the rythms and leads tracked with the same guitar?? Oh and what EMG did you use?? I liked the fact that the Jazz was so clear and tight, and it wasn't overly bright as some people say. But I liked the PATB's tone more. But it wasn't as clear as the Jazz, not close. As for the EMG, it was ok. It sounded decent but it just had way to strong contenders IMO. And the Full Shred. OYG!!!!!!!!! it was the ruler of them all. It seriously owned them all. But even though it's advertised as a super tight and articulate pup, I felt the Jazz to be tighter. Am I going crazy?

Oh BTW i payed more attention to the rythms than the leads.

All of the clips except for the emg one were tracked with a schecter c-1 elite. The emg clips was an ltd viper- mahogany but much thinner body and its a denser piece of wood(waaay heavier than the schecter) so it tends to be brighter and have less low end. It was an emg 81 in the bridge- actually it was all bridge position. Some of those old clips could've been dialed in lots better cuz they were with a podxt live which was sort of acting odd before I sold it- for whatever reason its way easier to dial a good sound in on the bean. the patb was a lost cause for clarity, only lasted like two days in that guitar. As for the fullshred- you aren't crazy at all, that's one of the reasons I took the fullshred out. It muddies from the top end down- the extended treble gives it tons of crunch and makes it sound huge (i imagine a custom would be similar), but detracts hugely from the clarity even on leads. It's also slightly too nasal and brittle for my tastes- I prefer a richer sound. To me the jazz is the best cuz its as clear as emgs, is the most versatile, and doesn't have any qualities that get on my nerves. emg81 is too brittle, patb too muddy, fullshred not clear or rich enough- jazz is the perfect medium. Hope that helps man.

Re: Jazz bridge doing metal

but the full shred is supposed to be the clear, articulate, and yada yada yada...just like the Evo...that's what made it so weird to me...i mean i know those things sound killer, I have heard them before, but I always thought that what made the full shred so amazing was the clarity and articulation you'd get from it....but then again I've heard it only in bolt-on alder axes so maybe that's where the clearer attack comes from...

It usually is that clear but, this further demonstrates how good the jazz is. You compared the FS to the Evo. Yeah, they both have good clarity but, the EVO is very unforgiving compared to the FS. The full shred has good clarity but, it does have a huge/fuzzy (not fizzy) sound to it.

Exactly. It's got so much treble- fuzz/crunch factor that although I wouldn't consider it muddy, the treble is what detracts from the clarity. By the same token, that's a big part of what makes it sound so "big." I dunno, it's a great pup but it just got annoying after I'd had it long enough. Then again- I require a LOT of clarity. I'm one of the rare anti- emg 85 bridge for that very reason.
