Jazz/jb master vol and tone help

Greetings all. First post here. I'm extremely thankful for this forum, especially since I feel like there are definitely some experts in here that can help me with my predicament. I have a swamp Ash strandberg 7-string. I have removed the Fishman fluence, and replaced with a jazz / JB combo. The Jazz sounds like freedom. The JB sounds a little too high end and brittle. With only having a master volume, and master tone at my disposal, is there anyway to take the edge off of the high-end of the JB, without manipulating the Jazz? I have yet to listen to them in and ensemble, so the high-end might actually work. But just jamming at home, I find myself not going past middle position of the 3-way blade. Thanks in advance guys

Well, the simplest way would be to move the tone control down a bit, and see if that works?

It dawned on me after I posted, that I could use a stack potentiometer, 500K, wired as two separate tone controls, and leave the JB rolled off the 250

Re: Jazz/jb master vol and tone help

try adding a tone capacitor such as 0.022uf (22nf) before the JB pickups hot lead hits the switch. This is two real world examples. Aside from lowering the height of the pickup as the JB is quite loud there is a modification called the "Spin a split" mod. What this does is lowers your pickups output. As you turn the special tone control down towards 0 it reduces the output of one of the coils in the humbucker until you reach 0% where it splits a coil. With this it'll give you a good idea of how much output you'll want to cut from your pickup. That is the diagram below the first one.

If these suggestions don't work, it might just be that the JB doesn't work with what you have. The JB is a hard one, as it is so good at precisely one thing. But that one thing is the right thing for all guitars. Make sure to let us now how it turns out (and post pics of the Srandberg).

Re: Jazz/jb master vol and tone help

For a bridge pickup is slightly too bright to balance, I would wire a 1M fixed resistor from the hot (black) wire from the bridge pickup to ground. The effect is very much the same as having the tone control set to 8/10ths for the bridge position only, while the tone knob is actually at 10/10ths.
