Jazz neck vs Seth neck

I have a set of Seths in my Epi Dot. I really don't like the Seth's. I am thinking of going with the hot Rodded set. I am very familiar with the JB. So I am wondering how the Jazz neck compares to the Seth neck. I am looking for a a sound that can do well with overdrive, but also a nice clean jazzy tone with the tone rolled back.

Opinions?

Actually, what specifically don't you like about the Seths? They do well with overdrive. And Seths also can do jazz tones. So, I really don't understand what you are looking for. Certainly the JB is a big departure from the Seth bridge and if that's the tone you're looking for, it's a personal preference. But the difference between the Seth and the Jazz isn't all that great. Put an A5 in the Seth and you just about have the Jazz.

Actually they kind of do LOL. Seymour has said the JB was for Jeff Beck, but since he couldn't call it that, he said it meant "jazz/blues" and that the neck model was "John Millner" or JM, and again when pressed he just said "Jazz Model". But it wasn't designed for traditional jazz. That doesn't mean it's wrong for that, it's great.

Back to the OP, it were my guitar I would try the new Saturday Night Special in the neck of that guitar prior to the Jazz.

I've had Seths in Epi Dots, Sheratons and ES-339s. They sounded great in each and every one of them!

What exactly is that you don't like? If it's more output you're looking for, I'd A4n/A8b-mod that Seth set and call it a day.

I consider the Seth much warmer, and less "brittle" for a lack of a better word than the Jazz. They both have somewhat the same characteristics, but the Jazz is "glassier", while the Seth is "warmer", and maybe just a tad "fuller" sounding. But what do I know? I've only run through pretty much the gamut of all of the Duncan line.

I have been dying to hear a JazzN A4 ever since I put one in my 59N. I think the A4 would just make the JazzN sparkle just a bit more in the mids without loosing the top and bottom of the A5.

Hi,
Jazz neck A4. Seth neck A4, basically what Lt. K. - Pepe - said. Either one bright and well balanced over the spectrum.
An A8 in a bridge model, Pepe is a strong advocate of that, and is very highly regarded around here and other places.
I should try one. For fun. In fact, I did, in a different model I think, but that was so long ago I don't remember so I should give it a go.

Yeah, I never thought the Jazz was remotely good for jazz. Way to open and clear. The Seth can get there- so that is the difference...the Seth has mids that are slightly honky and complex. The Jazz's mids are, well, not non-existent, but scooped. Before I went to the Jazz, I'd try the Whole Lotta Humbucker or as stated, the Saturday Night Special.

The Jazz has an A5 and the Seth has an A2...that's the main difference in tone. Put an A2 in the Jazz and an A5 in the Seth and your feelings about those two pups will also be reversed.

Well, I love the A2 in a Jazz, it makes it usable for actually playing jazz.

Yes, and Dave is probably one of the biggest proponents of the A2P neck.

A2P neck is the humbucker I like the most

(In the bridge is a bit too weak on a short scale, it works good in a fender scale instead, maybe for the added sparkle. In the bridge I think it works better with a UOA5 )
