You mean there's also good jazz that the focus isn't melody? Or that you don't think that was melodic?!!

I mean, not all good jazz is inherently extremely melodic.

I agree. Although I prefer melodic stuff like Chet, or Grant Green, or Ellington, or Monk.

Much like Swedish Black Death Metal, and Powermetal, and NWOBHM, there are many many jazz sub genre's.

They are all different.

And much like jazz approaching free-form, Frank Zappa can also sound exactly like anyone would playing whatever notes they want. Sometimes brilliant, sometimes just crap.

Figured I would post this. I seem to be making progress and got thru this 5 minute take without screwing up too badly. I'm also happy with my recording setup and tone now. The pickup is a (A5) 59 with A2 spacers.

Guitar, digital hammond, left hand bass, ez drummer. You can only hear the bass well on good speax or headphones.

I think one thing that puts people off to jazz is the snooty elitism in some circles, people like Wynton Marsalis and Stanley Crouch and any number of snobby academics haven't exactly helped any.

Cool. I have a bunch of Jazz Fake books for piano and guitar, I wish I spent more time Jazzin it up.

I do a lot of non standard and weird things on the guitar and if someone asks me what is it that I was doing -I always say "jazz man" ....

Sort of a 30 something year old running joke for me.
