Jazz tones

My area is full of thrown together classic rock bands (thrown together for the gig, and that's it), and dimestore blues...every bad cliché that brings up.

It is the same here in NH, the further you move away from Boston the more cover bands and cover venues you will see. Every band has the same setlist.

I am convinced they all have the same setlist so they can just put the band together for the show with whatever musicians aren't gigging that night. They sound like it, too.

at least in my cover bands we did stuff no one else did. hell, most people probably thought they were originals since they never heard em before. not that we would take credit for a song we didnt write

Securb, did you ever see the Bruce Bartlett trio? Used to go to a place in Central Square called Ryles. At least I think that was the name.

Never saw him but I am familiar with his band. Ryles was in Inman Sq it closed down a couple of years ago. It was one of the cornerstones of Jazz for years. Two hotels in Cambridge added jass clubs and gave them toom much competition for the bigger acts, Reggattabar and Scullers

I have respect for any band that does something really well. It is really bad to see half-assed renditions of Sweet Home Chicago and Pride & Joy by a bunch of guys who look like they just got off of work at the house paint factory. It just is something you notice as you work hard at what you do. I'd imagine it is hard for a chef to eat at Applebees, too.
There was a cover band around here that only did AM Gold soft rock songs...and they did it perfectly. No one was playing these songs due to the complex arrangements and multiple harmonies. Even though it isn't my thing, I dig that angle.

ive been on the board of a blues society for about 20 years, president for 5. if you arent from chicago, dont play sweet home chicago. and probably not even then. a bands look isnt all that important to me but ive walked out of plenty of places that had a bunch of guys halfass wackin their way through some well known, over played tripe. id rather watch that am gold band any day.

We belonged to the blues society here for many years, but not anymore. Their definition of blues is the guy (or girl in a short skirt) doing every hammy blues cliché known to man. No thanks.

yeah... not a fan of that. or the stupid cigar box thing that every fool seems to love. badly played out of tune slide on a open tuned three string baby guitar is awful.

Oh man...people go ga ga over that, too. I hope that trend is over.

Careful.
It could be replaced by something even worse.
Like kazoo, ukulele duets.
Or a three piece with bagpipes.

im into the bag pipes as long as we are outside and i have whiskey.

the thing with the cigar box guitars is they dont need to sound bad. i build one, maybe 16-18 years ago, for a friend. it stayed in tune and sounded pretty dang good. that isnt the case for most of these things, even most costly ones. i know a guy who makes em and sells em for a good amount. crappy tuners, crappy pups, super cheap electronics, and questionable fret work at best. people dont seem to care cause most of the time its being man (or woman) handled by someone who cant play slide for shit as a gimmick for one or two songs.

I have no doubt all of those are coming.
I actually love bagpipes.
We could always add an old steel trash can filled with nuts and bolts cranked like a rotisserie with a pizeo pickup on it, cranked through a high watt FRFR pa.
