Jazz with A4?

Anybody rocking one? Thoughts?

I like the Jazz, especially clean. It's super nice and sparkly.

I like it distored, but I sometimes wished it was more balanced, less plinky, fuller, and smoother. Just slightly.

I kinda want to balance it out a tad without losing as much of what I like of it clean. Will A4 do the job?

I'm not sure if it will suit your style as it might still be too bright. The clean tone is probably good though.

I like it being bright when playing clean, though. So that might not be too bad.

Gotcha. No double thick for the neck.

I'd say your options are A3, A4, or A6. I bet you've already tried UOA5.

That's very similar to an Eclair neck from MJ. Might be my favourite neck pickup of all time.

Of course, MJ has something to do with that as well. Every pickup she winds is magic to my ears.

I ended up swapping the A4 in.

I like it.

I don't find it COMPLETELY transforms the Jazz, but I did find it tames the scratchiness a bit and fills out the mid a tad. Also drops the output a little, so I had to raise the pickup a tad.

I like it because I still like the open airy sparkly clean tone, but I find the distorted tone a bit more balanced.

Do I like it more than the stock A5? I dunno. I like the output of the A5. The Jazz is pretty low output as it is stock. While I do like the EQ shif with the A4, I feel like there's less wiggle room as far as string height without the Jazz feeling like it's holding on to dear life with the JB in the bridge, LOL.
