Jazz with A4?

Anybody rocking one? Thoughts?

I like the Jazz, especially clean. It's super nice and sparkly.

I like it distored, but I sometimes wished it was more balanced, less plinky, fuller, and smoother. Just slightly.

I kinda want to balance it out a tad without losing as much of what I like of it clean. Will A4 do the job?

Thanks!

That's very similar to an Eclair neck from MJ. Might be my favourite neck pickup of all time.

Of course, MJ has something to do with that as well. Every pickup she winds is magic to my ears.

I ended up swapping the A4 in.

I like it.

I don't find it COMPLETELY transforms the Jazz, but I did find it tames the scratchiness a bit and fills out the mid a tad. Also drops the output a little, so I had to raise the pickup a tad.

I like it because I still like the open airy sparkly clean tone, but I find the distorted tone a bit more balanced.

Do I like it more than the stock A5? I dunno. I like the output of the A5. The Jazz is pretty low output as it is stock. While I do like the EQ shif with the A4, I feel like there's less wiggle room as far as string height while keeping the volume relatively balanced with the JB.

If you're looking for Petrucci-esque fat leads, you might want to look at the Sentient neck, or something like an Air Norton. IME, the Jazz does not take gain very well.

I've actually had the Air Norton in this guitar, and the lead tone is amazing, but the clean tone is so dull, LOL. It's kinda the opposite of the Jazz in that it sounds great distorted, but kinda awful clean.

Honestly, I don't think the Jazz sounds awful distorted, but it's not the tone I feel best compliments the JB for my application. I find it odd flipping the switch and finding the neck position has more high end than the bridge.

But I really don't dislike it enough to want to keep experimenting. I think I'll just move the A5 magnet back in and call it a day.

Can you describe the difference between A4 and A2? A2, of course, just makes it an AII Pro.
Never dropped an A2 in the Jazz. I don't think A2 would work for me seeing A4 is already pretty low output. But from what I've read, A4 is halfway between A5 and 2.

I'm using it in the neck. The A4 beefs up the midrange and rounds off the treble. It makes the Jazz less scooped and a flatter EQ.
