Re: JazzBlues ahead?

Sweet, sweet, sweet! I love that sound. Are you playing with a band, or a backing track?

Man . . . I wish I could do that. But I'm trying. Folks like you are my inspiration.

Re: JazzBlues ahead?

Classy ... mostly the fingers are what's great ... but just to know, what are you playing and playing through?

Re: JazzBlues ahead?

sounds good, i like it. were you using a laney? if so, i'm starting to want one.

Re: JazzBlues ahead?

Thanks a lot!!

I think you wouldn't expect the amp but the signal chain is this one:

Dunlop Delrin (1,5mm) -> Yamaha SA2200 (stock) -> Engl Screamer 50 combo -> T.C. G-Major (compressor and a tad reverb) -> Audio Technica 2020 condenser mic.

The backer is here

||:Cm7|Cm7|Cm7|C7alt|
|Fm7|Fm7|Cm7|Cm7|
|Ab7#11|G7alt|Cm7|Cm7:||

I play the Bb major scale for the C-minor7 (dorian) and the Eb major scale for the Fm7 (dorian) or the Ab major scale (aeolian) (but you can use for example a Am7b5 arpeggio (a,c,eb,g) over the C-minor7 or an dm7b5 arpeggio (d,f,ab,c) for the f-minor7 chord and combine the notes with some hip rhythm)

Over the Ab7#11 you can play Eb melodic minor or leave the #11 and play Db-major scale for a mixolydian sound and over the G7alt the Ab melodic minor scale (super locrian I think it's called) and/or a Fm7b5 arpeggio (f,ab,c,eb) and with the arpeggio you get automatically a super locrian sound..I can scan some sheets with arpeggios and you guys can try it but I could do that not until this thursday, hope you can wait for it :)

C-harmonic minor scale I used for example at the end of the track.

Arpeggios are really cool, you don't have to play them 1:1, I use them more as a guide line and use chromatic stuff alot.

Re: JazzBlues ahead?

wow, impressive... sounds like early Benson (bad benson)

as Rid said, you're only 20, you have a long way to go.

P.s. do you place the G-major in the loop?

Marin

Re: JazzBlues ahead?

A Yamaha SA2200 Stock? I have an '80 Yamaha SA2000 stock ... they can do jazz nice. It's amazing how they can go from one style to another. I'm going to download the backer and doodle a little bit ... but I have no expectactions of making mine sound anywhere near that classy.

Great job!

Re: JazzBlues ahead?

Here's mine ... I was not brave enough to go the Yamaha SA2000 route ... StrangeSound covered that one pretty well.

Instead, I tried my Schecter Vintage Tele model. I have a mini-switch that disables the noiseless coils. I put a little Boogie action on the Tele. So it's in a different style than the original. Just recorded a couple of times straight through ... took the 3rd try. Hell of a backer ... can we post the backer in other places? I'd like to share your approach to the chord changes and maybe link to your clip, as well.

Re: JazzBlues ahead?

Ah ... loved it Doveman ... I think Adrian is cool with sharing the backer!

Rid ... I liked yours too.

Rather than post his backer ... I just linked up the thread in a couple of posts on other forums. I told them they could find the backer and better yet StrangeSound's original post and his approach ... 1st and 6th posts in this thread. I think they will enjoy it and find it interesting.

StrangeSound is going to be a monster player ... I've been playing longer than he's been on this planet ... at 20. That's disappointing for me ... I should be better by now!

I really enjoyed that original take ... nice stuff. I enjoy listening to all the other takes too ... I'm sure there will be more. You know MarinBlues is going to lay one on us shortly ... I hope.

Re: JazzBlues ahead?

I'm back :D

Haha, thanks guys..you kill me lol, too much honor :D

Man, you two have some real, real cooking versions...both the tone and playing are stunning..my playing goes downhill after the 2:00 mark but you guys keep the heat on.

The backer is by Peter O'Mara (a great guitarist and teacher www.peteromara.com). We don't use the backing for commercial purpose, I think it's ok.

Yeah, the G-major is in the loop on serial modus, not parallel.

Yeah, a version by Marin would be so good!

Re: JazzBlues ahead?

Hm..it's working for me.

Try typing Peter O'Mara in google.

Could you share the thread you posted in another forum? I'd like to see what other people played over it and of course what they critizise on my playing, I need input :)

Thanks!
