Jazzmaster wiring mods.

Anyone out there done any mods using the existing controls?

And can someone explain the standard configuration and the types
of tones to expect.

Looking at a Jazzmaster project but with HB's. Do HB surrounds cover
the original pickup rout or do I need a custom pickguard.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Jazzmaster wiring mods.

i think if you used a HH pickguard with no mounting rings you would be fine

The only HB guards I can find are Fender Blacktops and they don't have the original control layout.
I'm prepared, or rather, have to go through Warmoth, but if the rings can cover the original PU rout
I can get a nice Tortoise or Pearloid guard to suit. Warmoth seem to be the cheapest at $40 with custom PU routs.

Cheers

Re: Jazzmaster wiring mods.

For wiring, aside from the stock you can mod it to give you whatever tones you are after. Series, parallel, all...taps...whatever you want. It is up to you.

Re: Jazzmaster wiring mods.

The standard Jazzmaster wiring offers two options. The regular control circuit selects the pickups via the three way toggle and on to the Master Volume and Master Tone pots near the jack socket.

The switches and roller pots above the strings are the "Rhythm" circuit. The slider switch engages the neck pickup through the volume and tone roller pots.

The idea was to preset a mellow backing sound and have it available at the flick of a single switch. Credit/blame goes entirely to Don Randall.

I have made this wiring diagram for my warmoth jazzmaster (with 9 volt / 18 volt switch and telecaster 4 way switch)

Welcome to the forum.

Your circuit will certainly work but, in practice, may prove annoying. It is almost always easier to have the Bridge/Treble pickup selected at one extreme of the switch travel and the Neck/Rhythm pickup selected at the other. Hence, I would rearrange the selector switch contacts to offer;
Bridge pickup only
Both pickups
Neck pickup in "Rhythm Circuit" mode
Neck pickup only.

Re: Jazzmaster wiring mods.

perhaps im wrong but that switch wont work as you intend it too.. looks like you try to switch from 9 to 18..OR you could of been trying to do a version of a kill switch.. which would be the result if you flip the switch to the right.. based on the orientation of the switch.. BUT a killswitch that short circuiting a battery if the switch is switched to the "right" canmt bve a good idea

deleted my orinal post because i thought i was in err.. dont think so after retracing the wires
