Jb/59 for metal?

Re: Jb/59 for metal?

That's very true. Back in the day almost everyone used a jb . It's been tried and true for metal for many years

Re: Jb/59 for metal?

JB - Yes
59n - No

I would go for the Full Shred neck with the JB for metal. They mesh amazingly well in my Jackson DK2M. I also don't like the Jazz with a lot of gain in a 25.5 inch scale superstrat either. It sounds much better in a 25" scale or shorter mahogany body.

Don't get me wrong. I love the 59n, just not for metal.

Re: Jb/59 for metal?

I never understood the logic of wanting to purchase new pickups before even knowing how the originals sound in the guitar. Due to the differences in each piece of wood, it can be a total crapshoot and miss the mark completely, seen it happen countless times both on this forum and in real world retail situations.

And if you like what you already have, then you might wind up stuck with 2 brand new pickups that you don`t have a use for and end up selling at a loss, depending on the return policy of whoever sold them to you.

Wait until the guitar arrives, play it for a few days with your setup, and THEN decide what you don`t like. That way you know what you have, and where you want to go from there, instead of having to base the entire plan on pure assumptions of what the guitar will sound like. Simply because there are slabs of ash out there that are darker than mahogany, and mahogany that`s brighter than maple, and that´s why you can only make ballpark guesses / broad generalizations about the expected tonal response without actually holding the guitar in your hands.

How does the JB and 59 not work for you? That might give people a better way to recommend replacements.

I had the JB/59 set in a few Schecter Blackjacks. The 59 was too bassy, the JB had that mid-spike I couldn't dial out. Replaced with a set of Black Winters and that worked much better.

Re: Jb/59 for metal?

It's kinda hard to explain lol The 59 is thin sounding and the jb is ok jus not as clear as I'd like.I'm leaning more toward a crunch lab/liquifire or the deactivateors.

Re: Jb/59 for metal?

If the 59 is thin and the JB not clear enough, try raising the 59, and lowering the JB before you do anything.

After that, the D-Activators or CL/LF will probably give you what you're looking for.

Re: Jb/59 for metal?

I have a Schecter with a JB /59 combo. I put a double thick ceramic in the JB and a UOA5 in the 59. It works.

Re: Jb/59 for metal?

JB/59 in a super Strat and a modded Marshall was THE sound for Hair metal all through the 80's-90's !!

Re: Jb/59 for metal?

Ok guys finally remembered to get on here and tell everyone I adjusted the height of the jb/59 as opposed to buying a new set of pickups as suggested. They seem to be growing on me.Not 100% the tone I want but it's one of those things is it really worth $150+ to change em out lol

Re: Jb/59 for metal?

Also hopefully soon I'll be ordering a Carvin Becker numbers guitar so at least 3 more Duncan's in my future hahah

Re: Jb/59 for metal?

Well if you get the Carvin, post some pics! Great pickups in that one!

Re: Jb/59 for metal?

I will hopefully getting it soon but unfortunately work is very slow around here so it may be next year before I feel comfortable spending the cash. :/
