JB bridge + YJM Fury neck

Re: JB bridge + YJM Fury neck

If you don't mind that the YJM Fury isn't very hot, otherwise I would look into an STK-S4b; possibly an STK-S6.

The SSL-6 absolutely kills with a JB, but the BMT for the STK-S6 indicates that it is more bass heavy than the SSL-6, if they are to be trusted.

Re: JB bridge + YJM Fury neck

Actually i really like the yjm neck. The bridge is just ok. I miss my jb... Wonder if it would be too hot though...

Re: JB bridge + YJM Fury neck

There's always a boost pedal.

Have you considered a Screamin' Demon instead of a JB?

The DiMarzio Injector Neck is also pretty good, but if the YJM Fury is what does it for you then that's what you should get.

Re: JB bridge + YJM Fury neck

There will be a BIG drop in output between them when switching between pickups.

Re: JB bridge + YJM Fury neck

The Screamin' Demon will be hot as well.

Maybe '59 bridge with an A3, or with the screws cut short and rotated so they are nearest the neck; or maybe both...

...or am I grasping at straws?

Re: JB bridge + YJM Fury neck

I think that is a good combo, but there won't be much of a balance between sounds. The Fury isn't really super loud like a JB, which will certainly overpower it. Most people with HS combinations don't care about this, but know that it can be an issue if volume balance is important to you.

Re: JB bridge + YJM Fury neck

Late to this one...

I have a JB bridge mated to a YJM neck, in a Charvel. They mate/balance pretty well, not much volume difference.

Re: JB bridge + YJM Fury neck

My JB completely overpowers my SSL-2 which is hotter than thy YJM Furys. I'd love to hear some clean and mid-gain crunch samples demonstrating otherwise.

Re: JB bridge + YJM Fury neck

I know when I first started asking about S-H setups using a hotter bridge a few years ago, the replies were all over the place. In my experience, I would say you really just have to try it and see how well it does in your particular setup.

Above are two very good examples why...one player doesn't hear a big difference, the other does, despite similar setups (the YJM Neck and SSL-2 are very similar in output)

You typically don't need a crazy powerful single coil in the neck to keep up with a fairly spicy bridge pickup, but there is certainly a limit. The JB is definitely pushing it in this regard. Still, many players have made them work, so there's hope! You could always try something like the YJM bridge in the neck slot if you have one...that would most certainly be a good match for the JB's output.

Re: JB bridge + YJM Fury neck

I agree with many of the above statements. The volume drop, in some cases, doesnt bother me on a few of my guitars. I have a PATB-1 with a YJM neck in an 80s Charvel and it is a pretty good match. PATB-1 similar output to the JB.

Re: JB bridge + YJM Fury neck

People don't seem to mind putting their 8k neck flush with the guitar and 8.5k bridge flush with the strings. Whats the big deal if the JB is a few turns lower than the YJM.

Re: JB bridge + YJM Fury neck

After switching to an SSL-6 in the neck I had to jack it pretty high to match the JB.

...but I also enjoy performances of a Cruiser Bridge in the neck spot against an AT-1 in the bridge, despite all the testimonials by guys who couldn't make the same setup work, so there you go!

I wonder what Yngwie would have to say. :D

He would say anybody using a humbucker period was trying to cover up their inferior playing skills, nevermind a hotter one like a JB. He has ndeed said this very thing many times before in interviews.

Re: JB bridge + YJM Fury neck

Who cares what he says? I dont. Guy is a great technical player, but....

Re: JB bridge + YJM Fury neck

Who cares what any of us says, really? Let the performance speak for itself.

Re: JB bridge + YJM Fury neck

My wallet speaks for me. I have spent a lot of cash on peoples music. I support the industry, always have. I pass on him. Is it music or an athletic competition? My opinion

Re: JB bridge + YJM Fury neck

You're making more out of it than needs to be. I am certainly not defending him, though I will defend his tone over a guy's opinion on tone that I've never heard before; but only because I like his tone, or at least the tone he had when he used DiMarzios.

I love Andy Timmon's tone too and he has a huge discrepancy in output between his bridge and singles when played clean. Now if you think the bridge and singles are balanced or don't hear a huge discrepancy played clean then I'll make a note of it in case you're ever in a position to provide me with advice. The advice is still welcome, because I *do* like and appreciate different points of view.

In the event you didn't read the entire thread, I did say this:
if the YJM Fury is what does it for you then that's what you should get.
...to go with a JB.

This also very much applies with a parallel conversation I'm having, though the OP wants a noiseless version of Texas Special, which the YJM Fury definitely is not.

Didnt mean to knock Yngwie and more importantly you. Have a great holiday, I will be listening to my new Yngwie Christmas album LOL. Its all good, in music there is no right or wrong. Take care Gregory, happy holidays to you and yours

Re: JB bridge + YJM Fury neck

Thanks and happy holiday to you as well! :)

I was 11 and impressionable when Steeler was released. I love No Parole From Rock 'n' Roll and his first two solo albums. Except for the Trilogy Suite instrumental on his third solo album, it was all down hill after that; though Odyssey is still an occasional guilty pleasure.

The :D in my earlier post was my failed attempt to show my comment was in jest. Yngwie is fair game if you ask me.
:firedevil
