JB for Death/Brutal Styles??

hi dudes...

a friend of mine has a lot of troubles to find a tb-6 on the used market (he´s from a village near mallorca...dunno if you know the spanish baleares islands...whatever...) and the only trembucker he has found is a JB trembucker...he likes death and brutal metal styles in the way of nile per example and is going to tune the guitar to B (like a baritone)...

is this pickup hot enought and will work better than the duncan distortion for that pourpose?

I think the JB would be horrible for that! Too thin, not enough low end for heavy brutal/death styles. Invader would be best, and you dont need a trembucker version of it, so it might be more available.

EMG 85 goddamnit. The BEST pickup for this kind of stuff. It only takes a backseat to the 707!

I've played extreme metal with a JB with good results, although it wouldn't be my #1 pick. I'd rather take an EMG 81.

try Duncan Distortion. they are designed for stiles like that.

I have to imagine it goes well with B standard tuning. I mean listen to Carcass "Heartwork" album or any early Arch Enemy album (Black Earth through Burning Bridges) and you will hear a JB in the bridge of a LP through a 5150.

I think the guys in machine head use the JB as well:beerchug:

there are so many metal guys that use the JB i can remember them all:smack:
but let me tell you this a JB and the DD are the same pup just different magnets
the DD is more aggressive and firey and the JB is more singing but can be very mean.
I use the DD for the real Metal stuff since it responds so well and NEVER gets muddy even with GOBS of gain it stays cear and has untouchable AUTHORITY!:burnout:

i can even do metal with my classic 50(strat with JB).and thats a blues amp !!
give it a try and switch mags for a DD sound later on.

The JB could be a lit muddy tuned in B but with a ceramic magnet it could more agressive and tighter .
JB + fat ceramic magnet = DD
JB + normal ceramic magnet = DD light but could be meaner than DD
