Still have to choose the wood of my next custom-made guitars.
Fingerboard will be maple for sure.

The Tone Wizard suggests JB in Alder and Custom in Basswood.
What do you think will be best?

What are willing to play with this guitar? What type of sound are you after?

If it is metal, rock...etc JB in alder would be my definite choice

Re: JB in Alder vs Custom in Basswood

I have a JB in my LTD EC-50 (basswood body,rosewood/maple neck) and it sounds good.
nver tried a Custom in it,sure it'll be DA BOMB !

Re: JB in Alder vs Custom in Basswood

gonna play rock and some metal.
I have a JB in a short scale mahogany guitar and it's to muddy for palm muting in that.
Problem is I've NEVER tried a Custom, seems that all stock guitars with Duncans have the JB

Re: JB in Alder vs Custom in Basswood

The whole Custom family can be awesome in either Mahogany or Alder but I've never tried it in a Basswood guitar. Personally I would choose Alder over Basswood any day and I'd probably slap a Custom8 in there to start with.

Why not get a Custom and if you don't like it then you can swap it with your existing JB which you don't seem to be too happy with? A Custom works wonders in short-scale mahogany guitars for rock and metal.

Buy the custom and put in your mahogany guitar. Then put the JB in your new Alder custom made guitar.

Basswood+Duncan Distortion=thunder of Zeus metalness!!

Also thinkin about a Paf Pro... the sound I'm lookin' for is a mix of 80's Sambora and Jake E Lee.
