btw - that schematic is correct. Are you sure you put the capacitor in for the tone control? Did you only use two terminals of the tone control?
Double-check. You have something wrong somewhere.

capacitor is there, yes... two terminals.. maybe.. possibly... umm .. i dont think so >.<
