I hope to be replacing my Bridge JB soon, I am curious to know how it sounds in the neck position of a guitar. Anyone tried it??
Opinions?? I have a Jazz in the neck at the Mo'.

Re: JB in the Neck????

I have been thinking about that to, how do you guys think it would sound combined with a super distortion in the bridge?

Re: JB in the Neck????

Got it in 2 guitars, mahogany /maple cap and it is just blissfull split. the slug side is as near strat as you like (depends on yer amp natch) and humbucking is thick and soulful (hi Gary); it's a smash.
You have to set it a LOT lower than normal as it sounds chimey and clean in this position, it's also got tons of poke, unless you have something thermonuclear in the bridge, it may overpower it a little if you set it too high.
Recommended.
PS. I'm not the only one in this camp - there are others in the woodwork.

Re: JB in the Neck????

I have a JB in the neck position of my Baretta 404 and I love the sound, great tone for lead and for rhythm. It works very well w/ the C5 I have in the bridge.

Re: JB in the Neck????

Alot of Jacksons came from the factory with a JB in the neck. I think it is a decent neck pickup. I actually like the JB better in the neck than the bridge.

Re: JB in the Neck????

Yeah, the JB sounds great in the neck (surprise, surprise) You get a ton a output for the distortion, it even sounds halfway decent played clean, albeit rather bassy, but very smooth, mellow, and dead-on-stratty split.

I raelly like the super D in the bridge alot!! The jb is good in the neck. I am not sure how they will mix though. Alone they will sound great but, You will have to try it and see if you like it when they are played together.

Re: JB in the Neck????

Too fat for me. I can see using it for certain styles though.

Re: JB in the Neck????

Thanks for the replies, Seems as though it's worth a try, if I dont like it, I'll put my Jazz back.

Pretty spot-on description.

Think ultra-smooth, sings like a banshee in heat, but can rock out with the best of them. Split, it´s the next best thing to having a single coil in the slot.

Depending on your amp (particularly Rectifiers) it may sound too boomy or mushy. But IMO that´s just a question of tweaking amp settings.

When the dust settles: Definitely not for everyone, but if you´re looking for a smooth, high-output neck pickup, look no further ;)[

Actually, AFAIK only the RR-5 and some of the earlier SL-4s had a JB @neck. The old Mustaine King V´s came loaded with a Custom(b)/JB(n) setupas well, but other than that there aren´t very many. Or I missed a few (dozen) ;)

My bad Zerb, I know some did but, I thought is was more than I thought. You are the man with Jacksons Zerb!!!!

Re: JB in the Neck????

How would it match the super distortion output wise?
Both pickups would be pretty warm sounding so it should work, i think i´m gonna have to buy a used jb and give it a try :D

Re: JB in the Neck????

I had a JB in the bridge of my LP Custom and it had this high-mid honk I could never seem to dial out so I replaced it with a Custom and put the JB in the neck just for kicks. It's the best combination I've ever had in any guitar. The two pickups compliment each other perfectly.

Re: JB in the Neck????

So, if you put the JB in the neck, is it all right to just turn it around or would it need to phase shift the magnets???

Re: JB in the Neck????

I think mine has the screw coil on the bridge side, but I´m not sure (read "Drunk" :alcoholic:. It was factory mounted, otherwise I´d remember:D:D I´ll take a quick glance tomorrow. AFAIK the pickup is box stock, no flipped magnet, out of phase wiring or such ;)

I have it in the neck - I just turned it around and have no problems...not even muddiness...
