JB/Super D hybrid

Re: JB/Super D hybrid

Yep! I won't go back to standard thickness mags in the bridge. I'm thinking about getting a magnetizer so I can glue A6 and 9 mags together and make double thickness ones.

Magnets dont work that way. You cant glue them together and get them to act as one. Even if you glue then while they are unmagentized. You will still wind up with 2 separate magnetic fields.

Cermag posted up in here and said bonding 2 unmagnetized mags and then remagnetizing them is equivalent to having 1 continuous mag. That's also what they do with their double thick A8s...

How does this compare to a straight up JB8 ?

A little rounder bass, rings clean bot to top without the clog in the mid, different top end with a nice subtle click, plus the awesome 3d ness you get from any hybrid. It's really great.

It will function as one mag but its not exactly the same.

Re: JB/Super D hybrid

Both trem spaced. The pole spacing works out well with the angled hum.

Re: JB/Super D hybrid

Right on yea I was wondering about that too because I think the poles between the two are slight off whether they both are standard or trem spaced.

You should take your leftover Super Distortion coil an pair it with an SH6 coil next. <err I mean TB6

Re: JB/Super D hybrid

Maybe I should! I'm really liking the Distortion with the Custom because they're both modern sounding, less organic.

Re: JB/Super D hybrid

I don't really feel like it honestly because I'm busy on the internet, but I do have a black/pink 80's PAF Pro right here if you want it.

Re: JB/Super D hybrid

Here's some more toanz of my JB/Super D hybrid with a double thick A8 since the JB vs Super D thread is back at it. I put time stamps in the video description. There's 3 samples of clean then 3 samples of overdrive.

JB Super D 2.jpg

Been working at the recorded toanz since I have a quality mic and interface now. I tried turning on the treble boost and bass cut on the mic but didn't like it as well as leaving the mic flat and eqing the amp bright. The live toan was pretty friggin bright lol and it still didn't come off as overly bright in the recording. I have treble 7, mids 3.5, bass 5.5. I also have a 1 meg pot in the guitar with no tone.

Jesus, that sounds darker than a Tone Zone. That's with a 1 meg pot and no tone? Where did you have the mics positioned?

Re: JB/Super D hybrid

Right up against it. And I eq'd the amp pretty bright lol! I'm in D standard tho, plus the double thick A8.

Re: JB/Super D hybrid

Ah. Back the mic off an inch or two and see if it sounds a bit more representative. When you stick a mic really close to something you get a bass boost from the proximity effect.

Re: JB/Super D hybrid

I tried it and you're right. 2 inches away reduces the boominess but still sounds good, full, and accurate. Farther away it starts to sound more roomy and trebly.
