That is kinda what I thought based on the description of the nailbomb on their site, (that it would be muddy in an LP) but as I said that guy on utoob gets some great tone with a set in his paul
Excuse me for potentially opening up a can of worms, but I read that the Rebel Yells were wound to be like an idealized EARLY JB (before they became a production pickup), which was around 14k. Can anybody back this up?
I think that's the general idea, but to my ears the RYs sound nothing like a JB at all. They don't have the high mid spike of the JB although they are still pretty bright. I have a set in a LP and they work really well.

late late response but RY's sound very different. GREAT pickups. I have a prototype "JB model" and it is definitely better than the 90's JB I've had since I started playing. Crisp where the newer JB is fizzy. Fuller throughout but still the JB sound.. I imagine this is what a Warpig is like with a slightly different (lower) mid EQ shift . The RY to me is the new classic in the making for original modern meets vintage rock pickups.
Well it's nice to see this post get a second life. I originally posted it also 2 years ago and since then I have tried a couple of the Bare Knuckle pickups.
The Holydiver bridge and neck and the Abraxas bridge and neck and both pickup pairs are very articulate and well defined but I tend to like the Duncans better myself.
My favorite pickups after trying 175 different ones these past 3 years including mag swaps and hybrids are as follows
JB & Jazz with Alnico 5 roughcast in both
Alnico 5 roughcast unoriented in both
Alnico 4 roughcast in both
Alnico 3 polished (Jazz only)
Alnico 8 roughcast (JB only)
P-Rails bridge & neck
Pearly Gates bridge and neck.
There you have it.
