JB with Alnico ii Pro

I just wanted to share that this combo is working great or me. I had tried the Jazz in neck which by is a great pickup in my opinion but the Alnico ii Pro is sitll chimey but it a touch of extra mids that for my taste works better with the JB in the bridge. WHen soloing it is a bit thicker but still soinds like a clear neck tone for soloing. Using it with auto split and SSL-6 in the middle (took the idea from some Charvels) the notch position 2 is very quacky, I think has more presense than a normal Strat quack, but different. I wonder why this combo is not mentioned that often. I still have not tried a JB + 59n, probably I will find something even better?

The A2Pro is basically a Jazz with an A2 mag instead of A5. So, clearly the character of the A2 works a little better for you in that particular guitar. I agree, both are great pickups. Seymour was a master of finding those "sweet spot" winds early on.

The A2P is closely identified with Slash, so most people don't use it because they don't want to sound like him. But it does so much more! And it is great combined with all sorts of other pickups. I don't play remotely like Slash, and love this pickup in the neck.

I have swapped magnets in several of my Jazz pickups and
it is a subtle difference

Maybe be better but I can also turn a knob on either thr guitar or amp and achieve the same results

The A2P with swapped pole pieces that Charvel uses in their Dinkys is a bloody fantastic pup as well.

Yes. For example the A2Pro neck is great for cleans, so much presence, roll the tone knob back and still a usable softer sound. Mild overdriven sound is great.

Sounds great, I'd really like to try an A2P set in one of my guitars.

The 59 is very scooped, so if you like the midrange of the A2P, you may well be better off sticking with that.

Switching when you like what you already have is mostly going to be a sideways step.

The A2P is a pickup I've wanted to try for a while. The only thing stopping me is I find both the '59 and the Jazz are almost too low output for the JB. Like they're right on the edge of where they have enough juice to balance. I don't think I'd like less output from a pairing with the JB.

On the topic of the JB/'59 pairing, it's honestly better than I remember it being, but it's still not perfect, IMO. The '59 is super nice clean. It's chimey, open, and clear. But distorted, I feel those same attributes don't translate all that well. I find it chirpy on the high notes and boomy in the low notes. Not terrible, but it could be better. At least IMO.

Your description of the 59 is spot on.

I find the Jazz to be hot enough for a JB, honestly. I prefer the Jazz over the A2P because of its mid scoop and hifi quality. If I want it fatter I roll donw the tone pot a touch.

The jazz/59 seems to fill out the midrange a bit more (odd, since both are quite scooped) but the hifi high-end of the jazz and the chirpy/scratchy topend of the 59 combine into a flute-like high end that sings, the midrange is scooped but less sharp, less jaggedy, and the low end is tight but not boomy, which gives a pickup that is warm, yes, but not mushy or muddy at all. But yeah, not high output. Even the Sentient is not really that hot. The Sentient feels like a spruced up Jazz, very close to a jazz/59 hybrid.

The A2P is too fat for my taste, but I understand why many like it. I like it in the bridge, though?
