I know this is stupid and everything. But still i tried and i replaced the alnico 5 magnet in JB to small ceramic magnet.(smaller than that magnet that distortion have)
Oh man it does scream the high-mid peak is now even higher! It sounds very crunchy especially after removing the tone control.
Just perfect for hair-metal

Re: JB with ceramic

There is probably more mids and low mids with the ceramic ( more balanced EQ ) and a little more pick attack ?

And more sizzle to the highs is how Seymour has described it...

Re: JB with ceramic

I used a big (bigger than DD) ceramic in mine and it made the EQ more balanced. It added bass and low mids and opened up the top end a bit. It also made it hotter. It's cool for OD and distortion, but the cleans kind of sucked. :burnout:

Must be why Seymour calls the JB with a ceramic magnet the "Duncan Distortion". :smack: :laugh2:

Re: JB with ceramic

I absolutely love the JB with the smaller ceramic. It's like a DD lite or a JB XXL. It was a better discovery than the over-hyped Custom 5 that I made this because of that initial swap. Did I say I love this pickup?

Re: JB with ceramic

that's exactly what i would like to do .......if i could find a ceramic magnet..........................

Re: JB with ceramic

Fenderiarhs, I'm sure someone on here can help you out. If you have some cheap humbucker pickups lying around, more than likely they will have a ceramic bar magnet. Worth a shot and it shouldn't vary too much from the magnet in a SD as ceramic doesn't lose much gauss over the years. That is assuming most ceramics of all types are the same.
