JB won't fit in my lonestar strat.

I just bought a jb (w/ nickel cover) to put in the bridge of my fender lonestar strat. It has hss configuration and the pickup won't fit. I've heard of and seen people putting covered humbuckers in their strat.

Is there anyway to make it fit? Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Shane

What won't fit? Where? I'm guessing the pickguard is cut with rounded edges for an uncovered humbucker. You need a squared off hole for a covered humbucker.

Yeah the edges are rounded. I've seen people with covered humbuckers in a strat. Does fender make any pickguards with the squared edges or would I need to fix the edges myself?

Re: JB won't fit in my lonestar strat.

There are after market pickguards available that have squared edges. If I remember right, the generic pickguards from GFS and MF are like that. But be warned. The screw holes don't always line up right. You may need to drill a hole or two to make the pickguard fit properly.

Is there a high chance that the holes won't line up right?

ive put covered SD humbuckers in a GFS pickguard. fitted perfectly on my USA plus deluxe strat (same body as the american standard model)- all 11 holes.

Sandpaper and a pencil in the corners of the humbucker slot.
+1 I would have done that. In fact I did that om the Ibby to fit in the Trembucker. But using a replacement Pickguard Allows you to keep the orignal pickguard as it is, in case you wanna go back or try something else.

Go to the haedware store and buy a cheap rattail file about 1/4" diameter. Very easy to file the corners to fit a covered pup. Cheaper than buying a new pickguard. If you ever want to convert it back to a non-covered pup, that's the time to invest in a new guard.

I've never had to modify a pickguard, but it seems like penciling in the corners and cutting them square with a Dremel would be fast, cheap, and still retain original pickguard. Probably best to use a variable speed dremel to make sure it cuts and not melts the material.

If you have the plastic mounting ring it could be used as a template so you don't have to draw the pencil lines by eyeball....

dremel or file or whatever it takes to cut the hole bigger... or just send that pickup to me and you won't have to worry about it. heh!

Warmoth can take care of you, they got a bunch of different options for pickguards
