JBJ needs a mate

Re: JBJ needs a mate

That's it exactly uOpt. I love the 59n in my idol, but want to expand my own exposure, and have some different tones available. I'm relative newcomer to electrics, so finding out how different winds and magnets affect tone is part of my education. I find it interesting how just about everything out there is a slight variation on PAF.

I noted in another thread you're not a huge fan of the PGn. Why's that?

The PGn in a Les Paul develops a weird low-mods push. It might be OK in a tremolo guitar. But I don't like the texas sizzle either.

A Demon in the neck is something to try, too.

Re: JBJ needs a mate

Is that a guitar with a block tremolo?

hey man, totally missed answering this....NO, not a block tremolo. Just a knock off tonepro style.

I like texas sizzle, but I also love the sweet clean tones I get in my semi hollow Idol with the 59N. (It's mahogany neck and body with a quilted cap, and a cavity like a thinline tele - see below)

Again, I think I may go for the PGn on the chance it'll be perfect, and at worst, I'll gain some great knowledge. As I read more and more, I'm realizing how much we can mess around with things (for example that A259N mod to match my CC might be too tempting to avoid)

really appreciate all the input, folks. keep it coming.

You're coming into this with an open mind, which is great. There's so much to try, and there's people here from all over the world with good ideas. Some guys expect perfect tones & then start off saying they refuse to consider doing this or doing that, and rule out most of the things that could get them their ideal tones.

Stick around and be a part of this. And let us know how you like the PGN.
