What are the major differences here? I've been playing through the DSL and TSL lately at our rehearsal space, but there have been a few 900's on craigslist recently for pretty cheap. Ultimately what I want to know is if the two-channel DSL is close to the 900? Anyone?

Re: JCM900 vs JCM2000

I am not an expert on Marshalls, but I did own both for extended period of time. To me its 900 hands down. I believe that 2000 was Marshall's first attempt at "jack of all trades" but it really tunred a master of none. There is a lot of gain but its so "blah" and I find it muddy. Now 900 is really more of a metal amp as I remember it, I would prabobly pick 900 over 800 for modern type of metal whether its Rammstain Static X or Stratovarius type of stuff. But Keep in mind I am very bias, I think Marshall's last great amp was JTM 45 so ...

Re: JCM900 vs JCM2000

They're not close enough you can decide you'd like a 900 by playing a 2000. Keep in mind the 900 DRs are very different from the 900 SLs.

Most players prefer the 2000 series and the 800s to the 900s. But, as Dr.Mavashi proves, those of us that like 900s love them. 900s are definitely high gain amps. They're not as versatile as the 2000s, so it's hard to say if you'd find the tones you like in the DSL.

Me too. :firedevil  :biglaugh: :bigthumb:  :arms: :19: :beerchug: :32: :werd:  :opcorn: :headbang:
Yep, and since I am not gonna have the money for real JTM 45 - not a re-issue, anytime soon, in about a year I plan to get a an Edana. I LOVE my Laney but I do want a gentler side to my tone and that's where you come in Scott. :bigok:

Re: JCM900 vs JCM2000

Not me. I don't factor into that equation at all unless you plan on stealing my Edana. You must have confused me for Scott_F. He's the one that builds them. I just like to play them.

I did confuse you, too much similarities JTM 45s and Scott in the nick, common now, I am metal guitar player with a respective attention span.

Agreed. If you buy a 900, it has to be the dual master SLX model, NOT the Dual Reverb. The 2 channel dual reverb is probably the most stale sounding Marshall tube amp, and those are the ones you see selling for $450-$500.

Personally, I never really disliked the DSL's, but my favorite highgain Marshalls will always be the Jubilee 2550 and 2555. With new tubes and a perfect bias, they do a more toneful highgain than 900's or DSL's. If they didn't, they wouldn't be fetching $2000 nowadays on looks alone.

Re: JCM900 vs JCM2000

On the JCM-900 front, get the Mark 3 models. You can't go wrong with ANY of them. Skip dual reverb model. I don't know much about the SLX versions, but I do know that the Mark III's are fantastic sounding amps.

Re: JCM900 vs JCM2000

I love my Dual Reverb. Channel 1 can go from clean to 800 OD, I own one. Channel 2 is high gain. USe good speaker and adjust knobs. I am really happy with mine. It has been so long since I have played an SLX. I prefer my DR to the 2000 I used to own.
